WOMEN'S SOCCER CENTRAL: Catawba

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (4-8-3, 2-6-2 SAC) look to clinch a postseason berth and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they close out the regular season schedule against the Catawba Indians (4-12, 2-8 SAC) at the LMU Soccer Complex.

Win and you're in. That's the mantra for Lincoln Memorial, who enters Saturday's regular season finale in the precarious position of either earning a spot in next week's South Atlantic Conference Championship field or seeing the season come to an abrupt end. The Lady Railsplitters are currently alone in eighth place in the league standings with eight points, so a win would clinch the tournament's eight seed and a quarterfinal date with either Wingate or Carson-Newman. A tie would also suffice as long as 4-12 Mars Hill doesn't shake things up by upsetting 13-3 Anderson. A loss would spell the end of the Lady Railsplitters' season.

The Lady Railsplitters have lost two straight matches since keeping their playoff hopes alive with a 4-1 win at Coker on October 17. Since then, they have lost 1-0 to Mars Hill and most recently 2-0 at Anderson on Saturday. Lincoln Memorial and Anderson finished dead even in shot attempts with 13 apiece, but the Lady Railsplitters trailed 6-3 in shots on goal. They didn't register their first shot on goal until the 49th minute. The Trojans, meanwhile, tallied in the 17th and 86th minutes to pace the victory.

Regardless of the outcome, 10 seniors will be taking to the LMU Soccer Complex pitch for the final time. Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas), Lauren Dusold (Spirit Lake, Iowa), Krista Holka (Harrison Township, Mich.), Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.), Madison Rivard (Roanoke, Texas), Maddy Nagy (Viera, Fla.), Josefin Hedstrom (Burtrask, Sweden), Sam Davis (Spring, Texas), Kadie Soall (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) and Morgan Brinson (Southlake, Texas) will all be honored during a pre-match ceremony.

This season has been particularly difficult for the Lady Railsplitters, but that 10-player senior class played a vital role in helping Lincoln Memorial go 9-4-3 last season and finish fourth in the SAC standings. The majority of that group was also a part of the 2013 squad that knocked off 16th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne and advanced to the title game of the SAC tournament for the first time since 2007.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the LMU Soccer Complex. Live stat and video links are available at www.LMURailsplitters.com.

The Indians halted a 10-match losing streak - one of the longest in the country at the time - on Tuesday with a stunning 2-1 win over Limestone, the 10th-ranked team in the most recent NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll. That victory was especially shocking since Catawba entered that contest with just two combined goals during their 10-match losing skid.

Catawba showed a ton of resiliency in Tuesday's uplifting win, as Limestone scored 35 seconds into the contest, but the Indians overtook the Saints with 15th and 21st minute goals from Emily Auwarter.

Goals have been few and far between for the Indians this season, as they rank last in the South Atlantic Conference in goals per game with 0.81. Catawba has scored a league-low five goals in SAC play and hasn't scored in a SAC match since losing 4-1 to Carson-Newman on October 10. Cumulatively, they have been outscored 27-13 and outshot 269-179, serving up 1.63 goals per game.

The Catawba attack is led by freshman forward Emily Davis, who has tallied four goals on 29 shots and nine shots on goal. Sophomore Becky Frost has contributed a goal and a team-high three assists on 12 shots and seven shots on goal, while Auwarter has two goals after the match against Limestone. Sophomore Kiersten Peck has produced a team-leading 10 shots on goal, but has yet to score this season.

Senior Angelica Pawlowski is likely to get the start in net for the Indians, as she has started 12 of Catawba's 16 matches this season, accumulating a 1.24 goals against average, 80 saves and an .842 save percentage. She has recorded double-digit saves three times this season, including a 12-stop performance against Lees-McRae on October 14.

Four of the last six meetings between Lincoln Memorial and Catawba have required overtime, including both meetings during the 2014 campaign. The Lady Railsplitters played the Indians to a 1-1 draw during the regular season match in Salisbury on October 25, and then did so again in the quarterfinals of the SAC Championship on November 4 at the LMU Soccer Complex. Current student assistant coach Fernanda Miaci scored with 1:05 left in regulation to help the Lady Railsplitters force overtime before Catawba advanced to the semifinals of the SAC tournament by winning the subsequent penalty-kick shootout 5-4.

The Lady Railsplitters are 3-7-4 all-time against Catawba.
