FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. -- Senior
Braden Galyon (Powell, Tenn.) and junior
Connor Froning (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned top-10 finishes in the first tournament of the championship portion of the schedule as the Railsplitters captured runner-up laurels in the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday at the Country Club of Orange Park in Fleming Island, Fla.

After carding back-to-back, 15-over par 303s on Monday, Lincoln Memorial turned in a 13-over par 301 in Tuesday's round. It was the second-lowest team round of the day, trailing only West Georgia's three-over par 291. The fifth-ranked Wolves won the event with 302+302+291=895 (+3). The Railsplitters finished 12 strokes back of West Georgia with 303+303+301=907 (+43). Young Harris and UNC Pembroke were separated by a single stroke in third and fourth place. The Mountain Lions posted 302+306+307=915 (+51), while the Braves went 307+300+309=916 (+52). Wingate and Carson-Newman finished in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Lincoln Memorial's B-Team finished eighth in the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, topping Shorter, West Alabama and Cape Fear Community College with 323+317+314=954 (+90).

Galyon fell just a single stroke shy of putting himself in a three-way tie for first, instead settling for a share of third place with two rounds of 73 and a final round 74. The Powell, Tenn., native led the entire field in birdies with 13 over the 54-hole event. He also led the field in par-three scoring with an average of 2.92 on those holes. Galyon finished with a four-over par total of 220.

Froning posted the third-best round of any player in the field on Tuesday, finishing with five bogeys, five birdies and eight pars in an even-par 72. Froning, who took sole possession of ninth place, concluded the event with a nine-over par total of 225. The Knoxville, Tenn. product ranked third in the field with 11 birdies.

Rand Wasson (Norris, Tenn.) followed up rounds of 74 and 78 with a five-over par 77 on Tuesday, completing the three-round event at 229 (+13) and alone in 18th place. Wasson shot a six-over par 42 on the front nine in the final round before completing the back nine at one-under par.

Kurtis Campbell (Saint Lazare, Quebec, Canada) tied for 26th with 79+80+78=237 (+21), while
George Duncan (Dumbartonshire, Scotland) brought home a share of 37th place with 88+76+78=242 (+26). Duncan's six-over par 78 in Tuesday's final round could have been much worse as the sophomore turned in eight-over par 44 before righting the ship with a two-under 34 on the back nine.

The Railsplitters led the entire field in birdies by a substantial margin with 44. UNC Pembroke was second with 32 birdies. Lincoln Memorial tied with West Georgia for the team lead in par-five scoring (5.05), while ranking second in the field in par-three scoring (3.20).

The LMU B-Team was paced by senior
Taylor Dreps (Nashville, Tenn.), who earned a 20th place finish with progressively better rounds, shooting 78+77+76=231 (+15).
Brandon Gibson (Corryton, Tenn.) and
Garrett Tucker (Tazewell, Tenn.) finished just a single shot apart. Gibson tied for 32nd with 77+84+79 (240), while Tucker took a share of 35th with 85+77+79=241 (+25).
Luke Butler (Worcester, England) fell two strokes back of Tucker in 39th place with 83+80+80=243 (+27).
Richard Allen Hoskins (Tazewell, Tenn.) round out the Railsplitters' effort with 85+83+95=263 (+47).Â

Wingate's Benedict Gebhardt and West Georgia's Barrett Waters finished 54 holes tied for the individual lead with three-under totals of 219. Gebhardt captured individual medalist distinctions with a par on the first playoff hole.

The Railsplitters return to the course on March 2 in the first round of the Richard Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.
