HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lincoln Memorial University women's tennis team (2-5, 0-4 SAC) dropped its fourth straight match and fell to 0-4 in South Atlantic Conference play with a 7-2 loss to the Anderson Trojans (9-3, 6-2 SAC) on Saturday at the LMU Tennis Complex.
Â
Priscilla Bulandres (Markham, Ontario, Canada) and
Roksolana Prudyvus (Lviv, Ukraine) accounted for the Lady Railsplitters' only doubles point, as that pair collected a dramatic 9-8 (14-12) win over Lindsay Gregory and Abigail Gregory at the third tandem flight.
Â
It was another tiebreaker that prevented the Lady Railsplitters from winning two of the three doubles matches, as Ivey Melborn and Rebecca Bruning narrowly edged out LMU's top doubles pair of
Elena Vasilyeva (Yaroslavl, Russia) and
Gemma Goodland (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) 9-8 (7-5).
Â
Mairead Cleary and Alexandra Ebner defeated
Summer Robinson (Midway, Tenn.) and
Angelica Solano (Bogota, Columbia) handedly in the second flight, winning 8-2.
Â
Vasilyeva remained unbeaten in SAC play with a 6-2, 6-2 pounding of Welborn at No. 1 singles, but none of the other five matches fell the Lady Railsplitters' way.
Â
Bruning bested Goodland 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2, Bulandres trailed Cleary 4-1 in the opening set before opting to retire from the No. 3 singles match, and Prudyvus came up short in a three-set match against Ebner at No. 4. Both Robinson and Solano were handed straight-set defeats at the fifth and sixth flights.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters travel to Brevard, N.C. on Monday for a SAC battle against the Brevard Tornados, with doubles action slated to commence at 2 p.m.
