Sumter, S.C. - The Lincoln Memorial University Women's Tennis team showed up strong in Sumter, competing in the Palmetto Tennis Invitational tournament hosted at the Palmetto Tennis Center by the ITA.  

Starting in Doubles play, the Railsplitters earned runs from both teams sent to Sumter, as the opening round featured an 8-0 win from the fifth-seeded team of Natalia Garcia and Adriana Pellizzari, sweeping Chowan. Lucie Palud and Alexandra Ortiz would secure a win out of the seventh seed, defeating their opponents from Barton 8-4 as both LMU teams would make the trip to the Round of 16.  

Garcia and Pellizzari would keep the party going by not allowing a single point in their first two matches, this time sweeping Belmont Abbey opponents to secure a berth in the Quarterfinals. 

The Splitters would earn the top-draw in the Quarterfinal matchup, facing the top-ranked team from Lenoir-Rhyne. Garcia and Pellizzari would battle the Bears, forcing LR into their closest match of the tournament to that point, falling 4-8 to end the doubles portion of the day. 

In singles play, the Splitters would compete all out of Flight A, earning close runs in the Consolation Bracket of the tournament. Ortiz would open the Consolation Round of 16 with a close win over Belmont Abbey, trading the first two sets 6-4 and 7-6 before closing out a 10-5 win in the third set to earn a trip to the Quarterfinals.  

Natalia Reimer would sweep her way into the Quarterfinals as well, allowing just a single point in the opening set before pulling ahead of her opponent from Wingate 6-3 secure the win. 

Garcia would have to fight late for a trip to the Quarterfinals, taking an easy 6-2 first set over Belmont Abbey before her opponent sent things to a third set with a 6-4 win. Garcia would trade points with Belmont Abbey, eventually pulling away at the end with a 10-6 victory.  

Garcia would next sweep into the semifinals, running away with a 6-4, 6-2 win against another foe from Belmont Abbey as the tournament would wrap up there for Lincoln Memorial ahead of the consolation semi-final.  

LMU will travel back to the Palmetto Tennis Center on October 16th, opening the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament in Sumter.
