Harrogate, TN – In their first fall matchup of the season, the Lincoln Memorial University Women's Tennis team hosted the LMU Hidden Duals Saturday afternoon, facing competition from Lee University and Ferrum College.
In singles play, the Railsplitters started by picking up four wins in their competition against Lee. Alexandra Ortiz earned the first Splitters win of the day, taking an 8-4 win. Reigning Third-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honoree Natalia Reimer would take home an 8-5 win in her lone singles match of the day.
Marta Melnichenok continued the Splitters success against the Flames, working an 8-5 win over her opponent. Mar Garcia Bucosa finished out the Railsplitters singles matches against Lee with an 8-3 victory.
In their matches against Ferrum, two Railsplitters earned a win over the Panthers. Lucie Palud opened her fall season with a clean sweep of the Panthers, securing an 8-0 win. Mia Rodriguez, in securing the Splitters second win, would also not allow a set to Ferrum, taking another LMU 8-0 win.
Moving to doubles play, the Railsplitters took home two wins in their matches against the Flames. In her first match of the year, the reigning Third-Team All-Conference doubles honoree Adriana Pellizzari would team up with Natalia Garcia for a 7-5 win, while Melnichenok and Palud secured a 6-1 win in the second-round vs Lee.
Against Ferrum, the Splitters finished 4-1, taking a clean sweep in the first round. Reimer, who joined Pellizzari on the All-SAC Third-Team, teamed up with Laura Nastrini for two wins over the Panthers, winning in the first round 6-1 before taking a clean 6-0 sweep in the second round. The pairing of VILL and Rodriguez would also earn two wins, as the group didn't yield a set to the Panthers with a pair of 6-0 wins.
LMU will head to Jefferson City later this week, taking part in the Carson-Newman Women's Hidden Duals from Thursday the 17th through Friday the 18th.
