Lady Railsplitters sweep Brevard 9-0 in SAC action Tuesday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Lady Railsplitters (3-5, 1-5 SAC) cruised to a 9-0 win over the Brevard Tornados (1-11, 0-7 SAC) and picked up their first South Atlantic Conference victory of the season in NCAA Division II women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon in Brevard, N.C.

Lincoln Memorial's top doubles tandem of Elena Vasilyeva (Yaroslavl, Russia) and Gemma Goodland (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) kicked off the Lady Railsplitters' unblemished performance with an 8-5 win over Katie Daugherty and Jule Hermann, improving to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in SAC play.

The Lady Railsplitters would push the lead to 3-0 by the end of doubles action as Priscilla Bulandres (Markham, Ontario, Canada) and Roksolana Prudyvus (Lviv, Ukraine) picked up an 8-4 win in the second flight, while the third and final flight was forfeited by Brevard and resulted in a point for LMU. Bulandres and Prudyvus moved to 3-2 as a tandem in league play as a result of the win.

The visiting unit carried that early moment into singles action as the Lady Railsplitters won all but one of the singles matches in straight sets.

Vasilyeva continued her dominance at No. 1 singles, claiming a 6-4, 6-3 win over Daugherty to push her perfect South Atlantic Conference singles record to 5-0.

Goodland and Bulandres picked up wins in the second and third flights, as Goodland battled for a 7-6 (7-3) win in the opening set before cruising in a 6-2 win in set two over Hermann. Bulandres controlled the pace from start to finish in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Pettig.

Prudyvus stomped Nirvanna Silva 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth flight, while Summer Robinson (Midway, Tenn.) captured her first win since March 20, 2013, when she won a three-set match against Lees-McRae's Taylor Bost. Robinson's singles match was the only one that required more than two sets, as she pulled off a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) win over Camille Cameron in the fifth flight.

Angelica Solano (Bogota, Colombia) wrapped up the Lady Railsplitters' perfect showing by rolling over Anita Maryskova 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth flight.

The Lady Railsplitters return to the LMU Tennis Complex on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. South Atlantic Conference battle against the Catawba Indians.
