HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lady Railsplitters (4-5, 2-5 SAC) made it back-to-back South Atlantic Conference victories on Wednesday as they knocked off the Catawba Indians (8-10, 0-7 SAC) 6-3 at the LMU Tennis Complex.
Lincoln Memorial assumed a 2-1 edge following doubles action, and the tandem of
Elena Vasilyeva (Yaroslavl, Russia) and
Gemma Goodland (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) propelled the Lady Railsplitters to a lightning quick 1-0 advantage by rolling over Liz Renteria and Kristen Rocko 8-1 in the top flight.
The Lady Railsplitters captured their second point in doubles play following a narrow 9-8 loss by
Summer Robinson (Midway, Tenn.) and
Angelica Solano (Bogota, Columbia) at No. 2 action, as
Priscilla Bulandres (Markham, Ontario, Canada) and
Roksolana Prudyvus (Lviv, Ukraine) cruised to an 8-2 win in the third flight.
Vasilyeva and Goodland increased the Lady Railsplitters' lead to 4-1 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Vasilyeva pushed her unblemished SAC record to 6-0 and extended her winning streak to seven matches with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Renteria, while Goodland got back even at 3-3 in SAC play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Rocko in the second flight.
Catawba managed to cut the Lincoln Memorial lead to 4-2 following a win at No. 3, as Bulandres fell behind 5-2 in the opening set before being forced to retire from the match.
Prudyvus would ice the match for the Lady Railsplitters at No. 4, though, as she rolled over Sloan Kessler 6-1, 6-3. Solano picked up Lincoln Memorial's sixth and final point with a 6-1, 6-0 crushing of Rachel Rudisill in the sixth flight.
The Lady Railsplitters will break briefly before returning to the LMU Tennis Complex on Wednesday, April 1 to tangle with the Mars Hill Lions. Doubles action is set to get underway at 1 p.m.
