KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the sixth straight season, the Lincoln Memorial University and Tusculum College golf programs took a break from the rigors of tournament play for the annual Tusculum/LMU Match Play event, hosted at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
The event consisted, as always, of seven alternate shot matches with teams comprised of one female and one male member representing the two respective schools. The men teed off on the odd-numbered holes, while the women teed off on the even-numbered holes.
In this season's event, Lincoln Memorial cruised to a 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 win over the Pioneers.
Scott MacGregor (Wakefield, England) and
Lindy McGuire (Maryville, Tenn.) kick started Lincoln Memorial with a 4&3 win over Nic Forsberg and Calley Lawson, but Tusculum got on the board with Taylor Smith's and Ciara Rattana's dominant 5&4 victory over
Connor Froning (Knoxville, Tenn.) and
Danielle Burrell (Basingstoke, England).
The Pioneers took a brief 2-1 lead after Warren Cheney and Kelly Horrell combined for a 5&4 win over
George Duncan (Dumbartonshire, Scotland) and
Mercedes Smith (Monterey, Tenn.).
Lincoln Memorial won the next two matches in runaway fashion to all but secure the victory.
Kurtis Campbell (Saint Lazare, Quebec, Canada) and
Michaela Conway (Chester, Va.) combined for a 3&1 win over Coleman Click and Taylor Lambertsen, while
Rand Wasson (Norris, Tenn.) and
Kasey Ankrom (Bean Station, Tenn.) absolutely pummelled Chris Hutson and Sayre Hopper 7&6.
Garrett Tucker (Tazewell, Tenn.) and
Brandy VanEtten (Jacksboro, Tenn.) finished all square with Brad Hawkins and Lindsay Butler to ensure at least a tie in the event, but
Luke Butler (Worcester, England) and
Lindsay Davis (Tazewell, Tenn.) provided the outright victory with a 3&2 win over Preston Tucker and Alex Cunningham.
The Lady Railsplitters complete the regular season on Monday and Tuesday at the Agnes McAmis Memorial at Link Hills Country Club, while the Railsplitters host the Tennessee River Rumble at Tennessee National Golf Club.
