Individual medalist Braden Galyon leads Lincoln Memorial to Tennessee River Rumble title

LOUDON, Tenn. – In the final regular season tournament of his illustrious career in the Blue and Gray, senior Braden Galyon (Powell, Tenn.) raced away with individual medalist honors and led the Railsplitters to a nine-stroke victory in the Tennessee River Rumble on Tuesday. Hosted by Lincoln Memorial University, the second annual Tennessee River Rumble featured 15 teams and 85 individual golfers, and was hosted at Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, Tenn.

The Railsplitters had a slim three-shot lead over Catawba following Monday's opening round, but carded a one-over par 289 on Tuesday to put a chasm between themselves and the remainder of the field. Lincoln Memorial finished with a 17-over par total of 593 over the 36-hole event.

It marks the third win of the season for Lincoln Memorial and the first victory since they captured the State Farm Intercollegiate title on October 13 at Woodlake Golf Club. The Railsplitters complete the regular season portion of the schedule with three wins and five additional top-five finishes.

Dalton State earned runner-up laurels with rounds of 310 and 292, finishing with a two-round total of 602 (+26). Brevard took third place with 309+302=611 (+35), while Washburn and Carson-Newman rounded out the top five with scores of 617 and 618, respectively.

The LMU B-Team finished in 11th place with a 65-over par total of 641, the LMU C-Team was tied for 12th place with a 70-over par total of 646, and the LMU D-Team placed in 15th.

As he's done all season, Galyon carried the torch for the Railsplitters in the Tennessee River Rumble, collecting the second individual medalist honor and sixth top-five finish of his senior season. The Powell, Tenn. native followed up Monday's two-under par 70 with a one-over par 73 on Tuesday, finishing with a two-round total of 143. Galyon concluded the event four strokes better than Catawba's Matt Hardman, Dalton State's Sean Elliott and Carson-Newman's Andrew Hall, who each finished tied for second place with 147s (+3).

Galyon led the entire field in birdies with eight and was one of two players in the field with a hole-in-one, as he aced the par-3 17th hole in Monday's round. Galyon also led the entire field in par-four scoring with a near-perfect 4.05 stroke average on Tennessee National's treacherous set of par fours.

Senior Rand Wasson (Norris, Tenn.) also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, carding a one-under par 71 in Tuesday's trek around the course. Wasson tied with Carson-Newman's Ben Kennard, who earned the final All-Tournament spot, with a five-over par total of 149.

Kurtis Campbell (Saint Lazare, Quebec, Canada) tied for 10th place with 81+70=151 (+7), with his two-under par 70 in Tuesday's round matching Galyon for the Railsplitters' low score. Connor Froning (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for 15th place with 75+78=153 (+9).

Campbell led the field in par three scoring with a three-under par total, while Froning finished second in the field in par-five scoring with a four-under par mark. Campbell and Scott MacGregor (Wakefield, England) trailed only Galyon for the tournament-lead for birdies with seven.

Taylor Dreps (Nashville, Tenn.) led the LMU B-Team with rounds of 79 and 77, finishing in a tie for 23rd with a 156 total. Will Wright (Knoxville, Tenn.) paced the C-Team with 80+75=155.

With the regular season in the books, the Railsplitters direct their attention to postseason play. Lincoln Memorial travels to Marvin, N.C. and Firethorn Country Club on April 19 for the first of three rounds in the South Atlantic Conference Championship.
