JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lady Railsplitters (5-9, 3-8 SAC) ended their season with a disappointing 6-3 loss to the Carson-Newman Eagles (6-10, 4-7 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action on Sunday in Jefferson City, Tenn. Lincoln Memorial finished ninth in the final league standings with a 3-8 mark, missing out on the SAC tournament.
Elena Vasilyeva (Yaroslavl, Russia) contributed two of the Lady Railsplitters' three points, combining with
Gemma Goodland (Melbourne, Victoria, Brazil) for an 8-2 win over Mallory Jackson and Jill Corsato in the top doubles flight, and then knocking off Corsato 6-3, 6-3 in the top singles flight.
Vasilyeva completes her junior season with an 11-3 singles record and a 10-1 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. Vasilyeva and Goodland finished 10-3 in tandem action.
Angelica Solano (Bogota, Columbia) accounted for the Lady Railsplitters' only other point, defeating Catherine Cooke 8-4 in the sixth singles flight.
Summer Robinson (Midway, Tenn.) and Solano fell 8-3 to Haleigh Chastain and Brooke Sanderson in the second doubles flight, while Patricia Guerreiro and Jennifer Ott combined for an 8-3 win over
Priscilla Bulandres (Markham, Ontario, Canada) and
Roksolana Prudyvus (Lviv, Ukraine) in the third flight.
Aside from Vasilyeva's and Solano's wins, Carson-Newman won the four middle singles matches. Prudyvus's match was the only one of those four that did not finish in straight sets, as she suffered a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 setback to Sanderson in the fourth flight.
