DADE CITY, Fla. – The book closed on one of the most prolific individual careers in the history of the Lincoln Memorial University men's golf program on Wednesday, as senior
Braden Galyon (Powell, Tenn.) completed the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional by carding a three-over par 75 at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
Galyon ended the 54-hole event at the 7,098-yard, par-72 Lake Jovita course tied for 82nd place with a three-round total of 234 (+18). The Powell, Tenn. native submitted increasingly improved scores, opening with a nine-over par 81 on Monday and carding a six-over par 78 on Tuesday.
Galyon avoided any big scores in Wednesday's three-over par 75, tallying three bogeys and a birdie on the front nine, while notching two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine, where he finished with a one-over par 37. Galyon wrapped up the tournament with eight birdies and an eagle over three rounds.
Despite a finish that was marred by a disappointing tie for 41st in the South Atlantic Conference Championship and a share of 82nd in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional in his last two tournaments, Galyon's seat at the table of all-time greats in the history of the LMU men's golf program has already been saved.
A two-time All-SAC first team selection and the 2014-15 SAC Men's Golfer of the Year, Galyon played in 92 career rounds, completing 24 of those 92 rounds at even par or better. Prior to the NCAA Super Regional, Galyon boasted the fourth-lowest career scoring average (74.37) and the fourth-highest win-loss percentage (.747) in program history.
Galyon – one of four SAC Player of the Year honorees in school history – completed his tenure in the Blue and Gray with 15 top-10 finishes in 42 career events, marked by two individual medalist laurels during his senior season.
Galyon's 92 career rounds are the most in program history, while his 42 tournament appearances are tied with
Jamie Chapman and Eric Kennedy for the most in school history.
No. 1 nationally-ranked Nova Southeastern raced away with the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional title, recording a ridiculous 54-hole total of 845 (-19), beating out third-ranked Lynn (855; -9) and fourth-ranked Barry (875; +11) by a significant sum.
The top three individual spots went to players representing Nova Southeastern, headlined by individual medalist Richard Mansell, who posted a seven-under par total of 209, marked by a five-under par 67 in Wednesday's final round. Mansell's teammates Oscar Lengden and Santiago Gomez tied for second place with a five-under par, three-round total of 211.
