Notes on the Lady Railsplitters:
Papa John's Splitter Sound Bites podcast with Coach D'Anna
- Lincoln Memorial is in the midst of its most successful stretch of the season with a 4-1 victory at Converse, 1-1 draw at Newberry and 2-1 (2OT) win against Coker over the last three games. The recent surge has elevated the Lady Railsplitters from a tie for 10th with Coker to an eighth-place tie with Newberry in the SAC standings.
-
Melissa Carpenter (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored a 103rd-minute goal to seal Lincoln Memorial's 2-1 victory Saturday against Coker.
Alyssa Berry (St. Joseph, Mich.) gave the Lady Railsplitters an early lead in the 10th minute. Coker later tied the game less than three minutes into the second half.
-
Caroline Souza (São Paulo, Brazil) leads the team with three goals. Carpenter and
Hanna Ratliff (Somerset, Ky.) are tied for second with two.
- Berry,
Palisa Chipendo (Brighton, England) and
Kaitlyn Tisch (Tacoma, Wash.) have accounted for one goal apiece.
Gabby Garcia (Aurora, Colo.) is the only other player to total a point this season; she assisted on Carpenter's game-winning goal against Coker.
- Possession has been a problem for the Lady Railsplitters all season, as they have been outshot in all but two games this season but tallied season-highs of 30 shots and 12 shot on goal Saturday against Coker and allowed a season low of seven. On average, opponents have outshot LMU 18.8 (9.2 SOG) to 12.8 (5.2 SOG).
- Lincoln Memorial is unbeaten in its last nine regular season matches that have gone into overtime dating back to October 16, 2013. However, it did lose a 2014 SAC Tournament match to Catawba on penalty kicks during the streak. The team is 1-0-1 in such matches this season and has outshot opponents 14-6 in extra time.
- The Lady Railsplitters have struggled to find consistent offensive production this season, as they have only scored 10 goals in 11 games on 141 shots. They place ninth in the 12-team SAC with 12.8 shots per game and 10th at .91 goals per game. Coker is last in both categories.
- The Lady Railsplitters' 7.1 shooting percentage is tied with Brevard for the lowest mark in the SAC.
- Goalie
Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) has played in all 11 of Lincoln Memorial's matches (eight starts) and is sixth in the conference with 45 saves.
- The Lady Railsplitters are in the midst of playing six of their final eight matches away from the LMU Soccer Complex.
Notes on the Lions:
- Mars Hill has gone 4-4 since opening the season 0-5-1. Just like Lincoln Memorial, both conference victories have come against Brevard and Coker. The Lions are 1-4-1 at home this season and 3-4 away.
- Breona Tate has been involved in 12 of Mars Hill's 13 goals this season. She has scored seven goals, which ranks fifth in the SAC. She has also recorded five assists, which is tied for fourth.
- Aleonya Hunter and Julia Johnson have added two goals apiece, while Abby Mills and Samantha Pyle have each scored once. No other player has recorded a point for the Lions.
- Goalkeeper Maslyn Greene recorded a career-high 13 saves Friday at Tusculum. Her 6.88 saves per game rank second in the SAC.
- Mars Hill has allowed a SAC-most 30 goals. Their 2.75 goals against average in conference games is worst in the conference.
- Coker has averaged 9.5 shots and 1.0 goal per game. Only Coker has attempted fewer shots per game. But the Lions have been somewhat efficient when they do take shots—their 10.5 shooting percentage ranks sixth in the SAC.
- The Lions outshot opponents in all five nonconference games but only one SAC team in eight conference matchups—Coker, who has been outshot in every game it has played. Carson-Newman outshot Mars Hill 34-0 in an 8-0 victory September 21.
