Quick Hits:
-The Railsplitters lost two of three games at USC Aiken to open the 2016 campaign, but could have easily won two of three if not for some bad breaks in last Sunday's rubber game. Lincoln Memorial led that contest 4-0 through six innings and carried a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Pacers hit a two-out solo home run to force extra innings. USC Aiken then went on to pull out the 5-4 victory in the bottom of the 10th inning thanks to a walk-off, bases-loaded fielder's choice. That loss sent Lincoln Memorial to 15-35 all-time against USC Aiken and prevented the Railsplitters from capturing their first series victory over the Pacers since 2010.
-Two freshman pitchers turned in impressive starts during the season-opening weekend for the Railsplitters. Left-hander Ethan Elliott (Knoxville, Tenn.) hurled seven innings, allowed five hits and struck out 10 in an 8-1 win in game two against USC Aiken, picking up his first collegiate victory in his first collegiate appearance. Right-hander Matt Mullenbach (Urbandale, Iowa) also turned in a quality start in game three, striking out five and surrendering just two earned runs over six-plus innings. The Urbandale, Iowa native was in line for the win, but had to settle for the no-decision after the Pacers' rallied for the come-from-behind victory.
-The Railsplitters' offense unloaded in an 18-5 win at Claflin last Monday, scoring their most runs in a game since a 21-run outburst against Kentucky State in March, 2014. Eric Kalman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led that offensive assault by going 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and eight RBIs. In the process, he became just the third player in program history with eight RBIs in a game and the first to do so since 2009.
-Freshman shortstop Seth Hunt (Knoxville, Tenn.) is off to a red-hot start for the Railsplitters, as he leads the team with eight hits, five stolen bases and a .500 batting average. Hunt went 2-for-3 in game one against USC Aiken and added a 4-for-6 performance with two runs scored and a double against Claflin.
-With eight stolen bases through four games, the Railsplitters already have almost one-fifth as many stolen bases as they had during the entire 2015 season, when they finished with 43. Hunt's five stolen bases nearly matches the high total by any single LMU player last season, as Logan Augustine (Urbandale, Iowa), Danny Valdez (Orlando, Fla.) and Scott Miller led the team with seven.

Notes on the Fighting Scots:
-The 2016 season got off to shaky start for Ohio Valley, who suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the Montevallo Falcons two weekends ago. The Fighting Scots were outscored 55-7 over that three-game set, falling by scores of 14-4, 23-0 and 18-3.
-The Ohio Valley pitching staff served up 54 earned runs, 50 hits, a .455 batting average and 10 home runs over the course of that three-game series at Montevallo. The Fighting Scots are carrying a sky-high 22.09 earned run average into Thursday's twinbill.
-Andrew Morales and Max Brown are fronting the offensive attack thus far for Ohio Valley. Morales has three hits with a pair of doubles in eight official at-bats, while Brown has a team-leading four hits with two doubles in 11 at-bats. The Fighting Scots are batting .160 as a team and have yet to record a stolen base.
-Ohio Valley - an NCAA Division II member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference - went 16-30 last season with a 2-14 record on the road. The Fighting Scots turned it on late and advanced all the way to the championship game of the GMAC tournament, where they lost to Trevecca Nazarene 19-2.

Notes on the Dragons:
-Tiffin opened the 2016 season by dropping two of three games at Lee University last weekend. The Dragons won game two of that series 2-0, but that win was sandwiched by 5-4 and 12-1 losses. Tiffin is looking to improve upon a 19-31 record in 2015.
-The Tiffin offense struggled to get anything going in that three-game set at Lee, hitting .214 as a team with a meager .305 on-base percentage. The Dragons posted a double, a triple and three home runs in the opening weekend of play to pace a .357 team slugging percentage.
-Alec McCurry and Isaac Perry are tied for the team lead with three hits apiece for the Dragons. McCurry is batting .500 with three singles in two appearances, while Perry has produced a triple, a home run and an RBI on 10 official at-bats. Nick Hueneburg and Kurt Barbeau are tied with a team-high two RBIs apiece.
-Through three games, the Tiffin pitching staff has a 6.46 earned run average, 25 strikeouts and 17 walks. Patrick Bellinger stands out in particular for the Dragons, as he has allowed just two hits and no earned runs with five strikeouts over four frames. Brady Ward is also sporting a 0.00 ERA, as he hasn't allowed a hit over three innings of work.

Series History:
-The Railsplitters are 17-5 all-time against Ohio Valley. Lincoln Memorial swept a three-game set from the Fighting Scots by scores of 10-4, 5-1 and 15-5 last season at Lamar Hennon Field. That marked the first time the two teams had played since 2009, when LMU split a doubleheader in Harrogate.
-The Railsplitters and Tiffin Dragons will be meeting for the first time ever this weekend.
