RESULTS
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Lincoln Memorial University women's tennis team (2-0) opened up the spring portion of the 2015-16 season with a 6-3 win over the host University of the Cumberlands (0-3) Friday afternoon at the UC Tennis Courts.
LMU took a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. In singles play, LMU picked up wins at the Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 flights to take the match 6-3.Â
LMU's duo of
Elena Vasilyeva and
Javiera Gonzalez defeated Isabella Dale and Marie Bowman 8-2 at the No. 1 flight, while at the No. 2 flight
Priscilla Bulandres and
Angelica Solano won over Kaylyn Collete and Hannah Wampler in a close match 9-7.
UC's Chanel Williams and Sydni Grimes picked up the Patriot's doubles win in the No. 2 flight as they defeated
Roksolana Prudyvus and
Marta Pinol 8-5.
In singles play, Pinol defeated UC's Williams 6-0, 6-2. Bulandres won 6-0, 6-3 over Bozeman, Prudyvus defeated Collette 6-1, 6-1 and Solano went to the tiebreaker in the second set to win 6-2, 7-6 over Wampler.
Cumberlands picked up the win at No. 1 singles where the NAIA's 6th-ranked Dale defeated Vasilyeva 7-5, 6-4 and at No. 3 where Grimes went to a third set to pick up the win over Gonzalez 5-7, 6-3, 10-2.
The women's tennis team returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Union College at the LMU Tennis Complex.
