Quick Hits: -The Railsplitters opened South Atlantic Conference play by taking two of three games from the Anderson Trojans at Lamar Hennon Field this past weekend. Lincoln Memorial won games one and two by scores of 16-12 and 14-9 before dropping the series finale in a game that's score resembled a football score 24-10. Hits continued to come at a torrential pace for the Railsplitters, who piled up 34 hits over the three-game set with 10 doubles and four homers.
-Lincoln Memorial has hit a home run in seven straight games with at least two home runs in three games over that stretch. The Railsplitters are currently ranked fourth in the South Atlantic Conference with 12 dingers.
Logan Augustine (Urbandale, Iowa),
Mason Ewers (Kingsport, Tenn.),
Eric Kalman (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
Wes Neiderland (Thompson Station, Tenn.) and
Jean Rodriguez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) led the team in that department with two homers apiece.
-The Railsplitters are getting it done at the plate when it matters the most. With runners on base, Lincoln Memorial is hitting .338, a figure that is carried by Ewers' .471 batting average (8-for-17) with ducks on the pond. With runners in scoring position, the Railsplitters are batting .326. Neiderland is 10-for-17 in those situations, good for an absurd .588 clip. King has also been the toughest team to strikeout in the league with just 56 whiffs in 452 official at-bats. The Tornado have racked up 47 extra-base hits this season with 38 doubles and eight home runs.
