Quick Hits: -The Railsplitters won their third straight South Atlantic Conference series this past weekend by taking two of three games from the Wingate Bulldogs in Harrogate. Lincoln Memorial cruised to a 7-4 victory in game one and then completed the series victory with a 12-4 beatdown in game two. The Bulldogs salvaged the series with an 11-0 triumph in game three. The Railsplitters head into the week sitting atop the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 7-2 mark. They travel to Salisbury, N.C. this weekend for a three-game set against the defending SAC regular-season champion and 2015 National Runners-Up Catawba.
-Redshirt-sophomore
Mason Ewers (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a big day at the plate in the Railsplitters' win over Wingate in game two, hitting a pair of three-run home runs. Ewers, who sat out the entire 2015 season due to a hand injury, is now ranked second in the SAC with seven home runs. He is hitting .338 with 31 RBI and 23 runs scored to go along with a pair of stolen bases.
-The Railsplitters will be looking to bounce back from far and away their worst offensive performance of the season. In game three against Wingate, Lincoln Memorial was held to just two hits and struck out seven times in an 11-0 loss.
Logan Augustine (Urbandale, Iowa) accounted for both of those hits with a pair of singles. Before that, the Railsplitters had not recorded less than nine hits in a game since being six-hit by USC Aiken in game three of the season-opening series back on February 7.
-Lincoln Memorial is 8-4 in nonconference action this season and 10-3 at Lamar Hennon Field. King is responsible for one of those nonconference losses, though, as the Tornado held on for a 13-11 win over the Railsplitters back on March 2 in Bristol, Tenn. The Railsplitters trailed 13-4 in that contest heading into the top of the eighth inning, when they scored seven runs on three Tornado errors to pull within two. Unfortunately, Lincoln Memorial went down in 1-2-3 order in the top of the ninth to fall just a bit short in the comeback attempt. Augustine led the way with three hits, including a double, while Ewers drove in a pair of runs.

Notes on the Tornado:-King has lost seven of its nine games since defeating the Railsplitters, most recently dropping two of three at Erskine in Conference Carolinas play last weekend. The last game of that series really got away from the Tornado, as they were beaten 28-6 by the Flying Fleet.
-The Tornado are hitting .326 as a team with a .464 slugging percentage and a .387 on-base clip. Mark Hencken is leading the way with a .434 average, 36 hits, 12 doubles and two home runs, while Ryan Whitt, who went 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle in the first go-around with LMU, is batting .420 with seven doubles, two homers and 20 RBI. Nicolas Keister (.381, 5 2B) and Tyler Bailey (.375, 1 2B) are also factors in the middle of the King lineup. Austin Dayton is hitting just .286, but leads the team with four home runs and 21 RBI.
-King has struggled mightily on the mound this season, as the Tornado staff enters Tuesday's game sporting a 6.87 earned run average and a .355 batting average against. Nathan Helke is the only King pitcher with an ERA below 5.00, as he is carrying a 2.13 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 12 2/3 innings of work. Gus Gill is a likely starter for King. He has a 7.36 ERA and a 2-2 record with 21 strikeouts over 25 2/3 innings of action.
-King is 3-5 on the road this season.
