Quick Hits: -The Lady Railsplitters split a SAC doubleheader against the Coker Cobras on Saturday at Dorothy Neely Field, pulling out a 4-3 win in eight innings in game one before the Cobras returned the favor with a 6-5 eight-inning win in game two. In game one, a costly error helped the Cobras score three runs in the top of the sixth and send the game into extra innings.
Jennifer Moose (Statesville, N.C.) notched the walk-off victory for the Lady Railsplitters in the bottom of the eighth, though, with a sacrifice fly out. In game two, the Lady Railsplitters had a late lead once again, but Coker scored in the top of the sixth to force extra innings. The Cobras brought three runs home in their half of the eighth, providing an insurmountable deficit for Lincoln Memorial.
Allie Jones (Ooltewah, Tenn.) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough.
-Since pulling out a 4-3 win in the SAC opener against Wingate, the Lady Railsplitters have dropped four of their last five in league play. Lincoln Memorial is ranked fourth in the conference with a .405 slugging percentage in SAC play, but is last in the league in on-base percentage (.282) and batting average (.216) in those contests. The Lady Railsplitters have recorded six hits or fewer in four of their six SAC games.
-Junior
Meredith Johnson (Kenly, N.C.) seems to have shaken off her slow start and turned a corner offensively, as she has hit safely in seven straight games with a streak of eight-straight games reaching base. Over that span, Johnson has lifted her batting average from .190 to .244. Johnson recorded a pair of singles in that doubleheader against Coker.
-Sophomore pitcher
Brianna Taylor (Ooltewah, Tenn.) picked up her ninth win of the season in game one against Coker, dealing a complete game that included three strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Taylor didn't relinquish an earned run in her eight innings of work. Taylor is ranked fourth in the SAC in complete games with 10, while her 67 strikeouts are the eighth-most in the league.
-Despite a league-low .264 batting average, the Lady Railsplitters are ranked second in the SAC with 75 extra-base hits.
Savannah Couch (Colonial Heights, Va.) has eight extra-base knocks with five doubles, two triples and a home run, while Jones has a team-high nine with four doubles, two triples and three round trippers.
Ashlea Hunter (Woodruff, S.C.) and
Lindsay Cecil (Winston-Salem, N.C.) have seven apiece.
