Quick Hits:
-The Railsplitters will be aiming to bounce back from an offensive letdown on Wednesday night at Tusculum, as the Pioneers limited Lincoln Memorial to just five hits and one unearned run in a 7-1 win in Greeneville, Tenn. The Railsplitters didn't record their first hit until the top of the fifth inning, while Tusculum scored two runs in the first and two more in the second to ignite the wire-to-wire win. Eric Kalman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the only LMU player with multiple hits in the contest, going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles.
-After taking a break from SAC play last weekend with a nonconference series against Davis & Elkins, the Railsplitters return to league play hoping to maintain or improve their position in the upper third of the standings. Catawba leads the SAC with a 10-5 record, while Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum are tied for second place at 8-4. There is a logjam below the Railsplitters, as Newberry is in fourth at 7-5, while Lenoir-Rhyne, Coker and Carson-Newman are all tied for fifth place at 6-6.
-Senior outfielder Wes Neiderland (Thompson Station, Tenn.) broke up Tusculum's no-hit bid in the top of the fifth on Wednesday with a lead-off single, extending his streak of reaching base to 15-straight games. Neiderland - a preseason All-SAC selection - is in the midst of a big year for the Railsplitters, hitting .370 with 10 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 36 RBI. He is tied for the team lead with 44 hits while sporting a .622 slugging percentage, and he also leads the team with 14 multi-hit games.
-Junior right-hander Brandon Jean (Franklin, Tenn.) has allowed three earned runs or less in his last four starts for the Railsplitters. Last Friday against Davis & Elkins, Jean threw seven innings of four-hit, two-run ball to improve to 3-1 on the season. Before that, he allowed just two earned runs over five innings of work in a win at Catawba. All told, Jean has collected 41 strikeouts and 8.52 per game, ranking ninth and eighth in the SAC in those respective categories.
-The Railsplitters lead the SAC in on-base percentage (.431) and slugging percentage (.507) while ranking second in batting average (.319), but those numbers have dipped considerably in SAC play, where Lincoln Memorial is boasting a .304/.388/.481 slash line.

Notes on the Lions:
-Mars Hill enters the weekend looking to get back on track in South Atlantic Conference play, as the Lions have lost five of their last six league games. Mars Hill was swept last weekend in a hard-fought series at Catawba, losing game one 19-16 in 12 innings before suffering an 8-7 loss in game three. The weekend before that, the Lions lost two of three at Anderson.
-The Lions are a dangerous offensive team, as they rank third in the SAC in slugging percentage (.495) while leading the league in total bases (576) and extra-base hits (127). In SAC play alone, Mars Hill has belted 28 home runs and racked up 33 doubles. In addition to that, the Lions are also leading the league in stolen bases with 73.
-Six everyday players are hitting above .300 for the Lions this season. Senior outfielder Rayshelon Carolina is batting .372 with 11 doubles, three triples, one home run, 28 RBI and 17 stolen bases, while senior infielder Evan Rogers is hitting .357 with 16 doubles, 15 home runs, 38 RBI and 19 stolen bases. Logan Conley has a .336 batting average with 12 doubles and six home runs, while Dylan Powers has provided nine doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBI with a .371 batting average. Dalton Eisenbath (10 2B, 3 HR, 25 RBI) and Brett Brubaker (8 2B, 4 HR) are also factors in the Lions' batting order.
-The Lions have been below average on the mound, ranking ninth out of 11 SAC teams in earned run average (5.82) and batting average against (.309). Those figures are even worse in SAC play, where Mars Hill's staff is serving up a .336 batting average with a 7.46 ERA. The Railsplitters are likely to see right-handers Hunter Boydston and Tom Mastrodonato and lefty Zac Brown in some order this weekend. Boydston is 4-3 this season with a 4.98 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 47 innings. Mastrodonato is 3-2 with a 5.22 ERA and 40 K's in 39 2/3 innings. Brown, meanwhile, is 1-2 with an 8.81 ERA in 31 2/3 frames.
-Mars Hill is a senior-laden bunch, as six of the team's top seven hitters in terms of total hits are competing in their final season of collegiate baseball.

Series History:
-Lincoln Memorial is 17-12 all-time against Mars Hill and has dominated the series as of late, winning six of the last seven meetings. Last season's LMU-Mars Hill series was condensed to two games due to bad weather, with the Railsplitters taking both ends of that doubleheader at Lamar Hennon Field by scores of 3-2 and 4-3.
-The Railsplitters are 7-5 on Mars Hill's home field. Lincoln Memorial hasn't paid a visit to Mars Hill since 2012, when the Railsplitters took two of three games from the Lions.
