Lady Railsplitters tangle with Trojans in critical SAC match on Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lady Railsplitters (7-7, 2-6 SAC) will once again try to string together back-to-back South Atlantic Conference wins and solidify their hold on a postseason bid on Saturday when they make the final conference road trip of the regular season by paying the Anderson Trojans (4-8-1, 3-5 SAC) a visit for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Quick Hits

- Lincoln Memorial pulled out a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime win over the Mars Hill Lions on Wednesday at the LMU Soccer Complex to take over sole possession of eighth place in the SAC standings, which would qualify the team for the upcoming SAC Championship.

- In Wednesday's win, the Lady Railsplitters raced out to a 2-0 lead and carried that two-goal advantage into the final 10 minute of regulation, but Mars Hill scored in the 82nd and 83rd minutes to force overtime. Palisa Chipendo rescued the Lady Railsplitters in the 101st minute, though, by scoring her second goal of the day. Melissa Carpenter added two assists in the match, while Mariana Diaz tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

- Lincoln Memorial is attempting to win back-to-back SAC matches for the first time since the 2014 team beat Anderson and Tusculum in succession. In addition to that possible accomplishment, with a win the Lady Railsplitters would equal the program's win total from the past two seasons combined.

- LMU's starting 11 played nearly every minute of Wednesday's match. The Lady Railsplitters didn't make their first substitution until Hanna Ratliff relieved Diaz in the 82nd minute. However, Diaz reentered the game less than a minute and a half later, and no further substitutions were made in the contest.

- Since being held scoreless in the first three SAC matches, the Lady Railsplitters have combined for seven goals in their last five league tilts. That includes Wednesday's three-goal outburst against Mars Hill, which represents the team's most goals in a SAC match since a 4-1 win over Coker last season.

Know the Opponent

- Anderson has lost three of its last five matches, including a 1-0 loss at Queens on Wednesday. In that contest, the Trojans registered just five shot attempts while the Royals scored in the 36th minute to power the victory.

- The Trojans sit just a game ahead of the Lady Railsplitters in the SAC standings in seventh place at 3-5. Anderson last checked into the win column on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Catawba.

- Anderson is 4-3 at home compared to 0-5 on the road and 0-0-1 in neutral site matches.

- The Trojans rank ninth in the 11-team SAC in goals with nine. The team also ranks near the bottom of the league in shot percentage (.074), shots per game (9.3), shots on goal (68) and corner kicks (37).

- Anderson has a balanced attack led by Lauren Allan's two goals and one assist. Lyssa Engle and Lexxi Longmore have also added two goals apiece, while three other players have pitched in a single goal. Allan leads the team with 14 shots and 10 shots on goal, while Engle has produced 11 shots and eight shots on frame.

- Junior Abby Helm has started all 13 matches in goal for the Trojans, compiling a stingy 1.15 goals against average, an .840 save percentage and 79 saves. She leads the conference in saves and is ranked fourth in save percentage.

- Anderson has accounted for only two multi-goal efforts this season – a 3-0 win over Coker and a 2-1 win over Catawba. Both of those performances came at home.

Head-to-Head

The Lady Railsplitters own a 4-3-1 edge against Anderson in the all-time series but will be looking to top the Trojans for the first time since pulling out a 1-0 win at the LMU Soccer Complex in 2014. Lincoln Memorial hasn't beaten Anderson on the road since 2010. In last season's meeting, the Lady Railsplitters led 2-1 on goals from Carpenter and Caroline Souza, but Anderson scored the equalizer in the 79th minute and won the game on a goal by Megan Foster in the 100th minute.
