Women's Bowling heads to Wisconsin for loaded Warhawk Classic

KENOSHA, Wis. – Lincoln Memorial University's women's bowling team returns from a weekend off to compete at the Warhawk Classic, which is hosted by No. 11 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Lady Railsplitters face another stacked field that includes five of the six top-ranked teams and 12 of the top 16. The team will also get its first look of the season at defending East Coast Conference champion Adelphi, who topped LMU in last year's conference championship match.

LMU is coming off a 16th-place finish out of 23 teams at the Brunswick Bearcat Open. The team went 5-7 overall across the three-day tournament with four ranked wins over No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 18 North Carolina A&T and No. 21 Youngstown State. The victory over Vanderbilt marked the highest-ranked win in program history.

"It was very exciting to beat two top-ten teams and also teams that have won national titles," LMU Director of Bowling and Women's Head Coach Joe Slowinski said.

Freshman Justine Brookover finished 25th out of 177 bowlers with 966 total pins through five traditional team games. She compiled a 19.32 per-frame average in traditional games and a 20.63 Baker frame average. The performance earned Brookover the East Coast Conference Bowler of the Week award.

"Justine has had an outstanding start to her collegiate career," Slowinski said. "She's very accurate. The physical game changes we have made are increasing her rev rate. She's striking at a higher rate."

The three-day Warhawk Classic includes five Baker matches Friday, five traditional team games Saturday and three best-of-seven Baker matches Sunday.

"Again, we'll have a lot of strong matches, and again I want us to be able to maintain emotional control and do what we need to do, which is consistency of hitting lines and adapting quickly to what the lane is giving us," Slowinski said. "If we can continue to do our work and commit to it and be strong on Sunday—something we haven't historically done yet—we'll come out of here really prepared to do well when we go to Alabama the following week."
