HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University Director of Bowling
Joseph Slowinski has announced that Hunter Kempton (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) has signed with the Railsplitters.
Kempton utilizes the emergent approach which uses two hands in the approach before releasing the ball with one hand. Most bowlers swing the ball with one hand. Two-handed bowling has been made popular by five-time PBA titlist Osku Palermaa and former PBA Player of the Year and 12-time PBA titlist Jason Belmonte, who both possess a very high rev rate, leading to significant ball motion and strike potential.
"Hunter is very coachable and possesses a strong daily work ethic," stated Slowinski. "I have high expectations for this young man to reach the highest levels in our sport."
Slowinski has coached more than 25 two-handers worldwide in his coaching career.
"I really think LMU is going to treat me well as the work ethic expected is very high," said Kempton. "I like to consider myself one of the hardest working people I know. Becoming a PBA champion someday is the goal and the only way to achieve that goal is to work harder than everyone else."
Kempton has emerged as one of the best youth bowlers in the country. At the 2016 U20 Junior Team USA Trials (Junior Gold) in Indianapolis, he finished 22nd in qualifying out of 1,357 participants, eventually placing 43rd after 26 games. Earlier last summer, he finished 15th out of 211 qualifiers at the 2016 Teen Masters National Championship, averaging 199 for 42 games on difficult conditions where a participant's skill is challenged significantly due to the use of only two specially designed bowling balls while bowling on dual pattern.
Kempton's high sport 3-game series is 803 with a high sport game of 300. He raised eyebrows recently at the Team USA Trials in Las Vegas in January,
making a run at 300 games on back-to-back days on different sport patterns.
Kempton also has two Junior Bowlers Tour New England division championships and two Rhode Island State Pepsi titles. Hunter is third all-time with six Capital District Youth Scholarship Tour titles and is currently the leading contender for the 2016-17 Bowler of the Year honor with a tournament series high average of 204 (49 games), earning three titles this season.
"Hunter will bring strike potential as well as the ability to play all areas of the lane which will help the team play the lane together leading to quicker reads of lane transition and higher team scores," added Slowinski. "He will bring high energy and enthusiasm to our competitions as well as a daily work ethic which will help push everyone to be their best."
"After working with Joe for over a year, I think the progress I've made and the progress I've seen with the team already is a recipe for a national championship. I can't wait to be a part of it," added Kempton.
