ROCK HILL, S.C. — For the second time this season, a Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer player has received a conference weekly honor.
This time, it's goalkeeper
Caleb Cothrin garnering Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of outstanding performances played last week, Oct. 1-7.
The senior reeled in back-to-back clean sheets in a 2-0 win at Mars Hill Wednesday followed by much of the same on Saturday, a shutout, 3-0, victory versus Wingate at the LMU Soccer Complex.
At Mars Hill, Cothrin played the full 90 minutes, securing four saves on eight shots faced, while he logged the same amount against Wingate with five saves on 12 shots in the Railsplitters' first win over the Bulldogs since 2011.
The efforts from Cothrin, a Lubbock, Texas, native, has pushed him up the rankings of the SAC goalkeepers. He's tied for the fourth-fewest goals allowed (11), the fifth-best save percentage (.725) and the fifth-lowest goals-against average (1.18) in the conference.
He's also played every minute (840:37) minus 23:39 when
Caio Bergamo relieved him at Catawba, a 3-0 win. Cothrin also has 29 saves on 93 shots faced so far.
The senior joined fellow teammate,
Felipe de Sousa, who was named Astroturf SAC Men's Soccer Offensive POW Sept. 18 following his performance at King University where he had a goal and the assist for the game-winning goal to
Victor Peres.
