No. 14 Lady Railsplitters leave Warhawk Classic behind 9-4 record

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — After three best-of-7 matches, the Lady Railsplitters finished 1-2 in the Sunday Championship Bracket for 3,179 total pins to close out the Warhawk Classic.

The final day performance in Milwaukee Wis., pushed the No. 14 Lady Railsplitters to 9-4 on the weekend and from ninth to 11th place out of 18 top-notch teams. In all, LMU racked up 13,007 pins through 67 games for a 194.13 average.

"Overall a great weekend for our team," LMU Director of Bowling and Women's Head Coach Joseph Slowinski said. "Significantly more focused and higher performance. With a 9-4 record and five top-20 wins — No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Arkansas St, No. 15 Adelphi, No. 18 Central Missouri and No. 19 LIU Brooklyn — we can't be disappointed."

LMU opened the morning the right way versus No. 19 LIU Brooklyn, ripping off three straight victories before its opponent came back to stun the Lady Railsplitters in a 3-4 (196-159, 237-185, 186-142, 185-213, 200-217, 176-179, 158-187) loss.

The Lady Railsplitters then faced No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson and were unable to bounce back, falling 2-4 (174-189, 234-168, 167-224, 248-244, 198-202, 179-245).

In the final best-of-7 match, LMU took down Valparaiso in four games (150-146, 170-166, 229-177, 192-167) for the 4-0 sweep.

"Proud of our team for taking a big step forward this weekend," Slowinski said. "Significant more focus and quality execution all weekend. We fizzled a little bit today due to a lack of collective frame-by-frame repeatability but we always had several bowlers performing well.

"We started the day off hot going-up 3-0 and dominating against No. 19 LIU Brooklyn, but we got complacent and lost focus. Poor shot-making paired with LIU Brooklyn improving led to them winning four straight to win 4-3. We responded well at times against Fairleigh Dickinson, throwing two big games, but just stumbled with inconsistency and collective quality shots in order. We were plagued with too many missed makeables, although we struck a lot in that match."

The Lady Railsplitters won't be away from the lanes for long as they compete in the Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del., this Friday through Sunday.
