Lady Railsplitters host Carson-Newman in SAC opener Wednesday evening

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's basketball team opens up South Atlantic Conference play as they host Carson-Newman Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Railsplitters are currently 2-2 on the season following a 72-69 win over King last Tuesday. LMU led for pretty much the entire game and held a 64-51 lead with 7:09 remaining. King then went on a 12-0 run to cut the lead to one. After the Tornado took a 67-66 lead, Shermeria Quarles hit a key jumper to regain the lead and Rachel Griffith and Sydney Duggins hit free throws down the stretch to seal the 72-69 win.

Quarles led with way with a double-double with a career high 14 points and eleven rebounds. Emily Griffith had 13 points and six assists while Duggins chipped in 10 points. Sydney Newsome had a game high 12 rebounds.

LMU will host Coker on Saturday at 2 p.m. to close out a three-game home stand.

SERIES HISTORY
· LMU trails in the all-time series 50-45. Most of C-N's wins came during a long streak in the late 1970s-early 1980s while LMU has had the better run recently, winning nine of the last 13 and the last six meetings in Harrogate.

· In their most recent meeting, on March 3, 2018 in the SAC Tournament semifinals, the seventh-ranked Eagles ended LMU's season as they grabbed the lead late and held on for a 79-73 win. Shea Coker led LMU with 23 points, while Emily Griffith chipped in 11. Haris Price led C-N with 20 points.

· The last meeting in the Tex Turner Arena came on Feb. 21, 2018 LMU pulled out to a 63-49 lead in the third quarter only to see the third-ranked Eagles come back and cut the lead to 88-87 with 14 seconds left. The Lady Railsplitters turned the ball over on their next possession but C-N missed an easy layup that was rebounded by Cameryn DuBose. DuBose was then fouled and hit one of two free throws to put the lead at two. Price was driving for a potential game-tying shot when she was stripped of the ball by Emily Griffith as time expired as LMU went on to win 89-87. Qua Hines had 20 points, Coker and Jordan Brightwell had 14 apiece, Emily Griffith had 12 points while DuBose had 11 points and 15 rebounds and Dasia Maxwell chipped in 10 points. Price led the Eagles with 27 points while Kayla Marosites chipped in 19.
 
SCOUTING CARSON-NEWMAN
· C-N comes into the game with a 5-1 record after suffering their first loss of the season on Sunday, an 88-83 loss at Columbus State.

· Mika Wester leads C-N with an 18.8 points 3.8 turnovers a game average. Kayla Marosites is averaging 15.8 points a game while Addison Byrd has 15.0 per game.  Marosites leads the team with a 10.8 rebounds a game average.

· As a team, the Eagles are outscoring their opponents by an 89.2-79.3 points a game margin. They are also out-rebounding their opponents by a 3.3 rebound per game average.

· Head Coach Krystal Evans is in her fifth season at LMU. She has a 79-45 overall record.
