Lady Railsplitters look to bounce back as they host Coker Saturday afternoon

HARROGATE, Tenn. – After falling to nationally-ranked Carson-Newman Wednesday evening, the LMU women's basketball team is looking to rebound with a win as they host Coker this Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Tex Turner Arena.

The Lady Railsplitters are currently 2-3 on the season following the 91-80 loss on Wednesday. In that game, The Eagles shot out to an early lead. LMU fought back but after cutting it to three late C-N hit a few clutch baskets to pull away for the win.

Rachel Griffith led the way with 16 points, while Dasia Maxwell flirted with a double-double as she had 12 points and nine rebounds. Emily Griffith also chipped in 11 points. Kayla Marosites led C-N with 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Following this game, LMU will take some time off for finals before traveling to Queens next Saturday. Their next home game will be on Dec. 11, when they host Tennessee Wesleyan.

SERIES HISTORY
· LMU leads the all-time series 6-5. They are currently riding a five game win streak in the series and last lost to Coker on Dec. 5, 2015 in Harrogate.

· In their most recent meeting, on Feb 17, 2018 in Hartsville, LMU rallied from a 14 point third quarter deficit to grab the lead midway through the fourth quarter. Coker tied the game on a Shay Jackson free throw with 49 seconds left, but a layup by Qua Hines and free throws from Ross Mathis sealed the deal as LMU held on for the 68-64 win. Hines had 17 points and Shea Coker had 11. Mathis led LMU on the boards with six rebounds. Coker had four players in double figures, led by Hayley Kropp's 14 points. Janea Williams chipped in 11.

· The last meeting in the Tex Turner Arena came on Jan. 6, 2018 as Coker scored the first two points, Hines immediately went down the court and hit a three-pointer, and LMU never trailed again in a 75-69 win. Hines had a career high 24 points while Rachel Griffith had 15. Shea Coker had 10 points. The Cobras were led by Caitland Considine's 12 points and Janea Williams' double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.
 
SCOUTING COKER
· Coker rolls into the Tex Turner Arena with a 1-6 record. Their win was a 77-63 downing of the Erskine Flying Fleet on Nov. 12. Against common opponents they have lost 82-67 to King and 76-42 to Wingate in their SAC opener Wednesday evening. Their closest game thus far was a 61-59 overtime loss to Fayetteville State.

· Erin Houser leads the Cobras with an average of 14.3 points per game while Shay Jackson has 11.1. Houser and Jackson are also the top two rebounders with averages of 10.0 and 6.6 per game, respectively.

· As a team, the Cobras are being outscored by their opponents by a 71.4-63.9 points a game margin. They are also out-rebounding their opponents by a 0.8 rebound per game average. Coker is also averaging 19.6 turnovers a game.

· Coker was picked to finish ninth in the SAC preseason poll.

· Head Coach Josh Thompson is in his eighth season at King. Prior to King he spent eight years at Nyack. He has a 119-87 record at King and a 192-238 career record.

· There are 12 new players on Coker's roster this year.

· Head Coach Krystal Evans is in her fifth season at LMU. She has a 79-46 overall record.
 
· Rachel Griffith currently leads the team with an average of 13.6 points a game. Twin sister Emily has 11.8 per game while Dasia Maxwell has 11.3. Sydney Duggins has 10.2 a game.
 
· Shermeria Quarles leads the team in rebounds with 7.7 a game, while freshman Sydney Newsome has a 7.4 per game average.
 
· As a team, LMU is averaging 75.8 points a game while holding opponents to 77.2. They are out-rebounding opponents by a margin of +6.6 a game.

· POINTS –Emily Griffith ranks 45th with 601 points and trails Leslie Redmond (1996-00) by four points. Rachel Griffith isn't far behind at 49th with 552 points.
