HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's tennis team fought hard but were edged by East Tennessee State 7-0 Thursday evening in the LMU Indoor Tennis Facility.

The match was played under Division I rules, so the final result only counts the doubles as one point using a best of three format.

The Bucs took all three doubles flights to claim the first point of the match. ETSU's Yi Chi Ma and Melissa Esguerra defeated Kiersten Waugh and Kristin Vogel 6-3 on court two, while on court three Angelica Solano and Julia Valls were bested by ETSU's Alejandra Morales and Esther Guemes 6-4. LMU's Johanna Delisse and Julia Loos then fell to Alory Pereira and Ioanna Markesini 6-4 on court one.

In singles play, Valls fell to Yi 6-1, 6-0 on court three, while ETSU's Morales bested Solano on court five 6-2, 6-0. On court two, Loos fell in the first set 6-0 but played hard in the second set, eventually falling 6-3. Zellner then fell to Esguerra 6-2, 6-2 on court four, and after falling 6-1 in the first set to Markesini Vogel had the second set cut to 5-4 before eventually falling 6-4 on court one. On court six, ETSU's Guemes defeated Waugh 6-2 in the first set and had to go to a seventh point to take the second set 7-5 and give the Bucs the 7-0 victory.

LMU returns to action Saturday when they host Cumberland University at 8 a.m. They will close out the weekend by hosting Union College on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Both matches are set to be played in the Indoor Tennis Facility due to forecasted rain and cold temperatures over the weekend.
