NEWBERRY, S.C. – The LMU women's tennis team begins the post-season Tuesday morning with they play at Newberry in the quarterfinal round of the SAC Tennis Championships. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
LMU is the fifth seed and Newberry is the number four seed. Then-no. 45 Newberry won the previous meeting on March 30 by a 6-3 margin, but were very close in three of the losses so the match could have gone either way.
Kristin Vogel will hold down the no. 1 singles flight and enters the match with a 5-13 record. At no. 2 will be
Marta Pinol, who is 13-8 on the season.
Julia Loos is in the no. 3 flight, and is 12-9 on the season. At no. 4 will be
Julia Valls, who is 15-8 in 2017-18. Yet another Julia, this time
Julia Zellner, is at the no. 5 flight and enters with a 16-3 record.
Angelica Solano will play at no. 6 and has a 16-5 record.
Johanna Delisse and
Kiersten Waugh will be the alternates.
In doubles, Solano and Pinol will play at #1. They are 5-6 on the season. Delisse and Loos have been consistently strong at no. 2 all season, going 10-9, and will be in that flight again. Valls and Vogel will play at the no. 3 flight and are 9-2 on the season.
The winner will advance to the semifinals and finals, which will be played at the Cayce Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C. April 20-21.
