PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Filled with top talent across the nation, the Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team proved it belonged at the Copperhead Championship the past two days.
Finishing with a three-round, 11-over par 863, the No. 14-ranked Railsplitters secured third place behind No. 24 Columbus State (+5) and team champion, fourth-ranked Barry (-2).
"The boys played really solid this week," LMU men's golf assistant
Parker Jones said. "The conditions were very challenging today as the wind picked up. I'm very proud of how they hung in there in the face of adversity. All in all, very proud of a really solid performance in a great field."
Last season, the Railsplitters left the Innisbrook Resort and Copperhead Course with an eighth-place finish, but this time around LMU improved five spots up the leaderboard.
Dan Bradbury and
Luke Harries solidified back-to-back top-4 finishes as the junior duo each shot three-over par Tuesday, putting Bradbury in a tie for second place (212) and Harries in a tie for fourth (213).
Freshman
Erik Fogel used an even-par 71 to pull himself up the leaderboard, sitting tied in 22nd place after a three-day 217 total, while senior
Harry Boyle wrapped up his tournament with a four-over par 75 to end knotted at 40 (221). Completing the Railsplitters' five was sophomore
Hamish McColm, who took a tough day one on the course and shaved three strokes off with a six-over par 77.
The Railsplitters and their back-to-back top-3 finishes will be back on the links next Monday at the Queens Invitational in Kannapolis, N.C.
