Quick Hits

-The Lady Railsplitters (3-1) began their season defeating visiting Walsh University twice — 9-0 on Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday, both in five innings —while splitting the pair of games — dropping 8-11 Saturday before prevailing 12-11 Sunday — versus Maryville University.

-LMU showed its new look behind its highly-touted freshman class. The rookies backed up the talk as Sierra Hucklebee and McKenzie Henry led the way.

-Hucklebee, who started every game at shortstop, paced the Lady Railsplitters with a team-high six walks over her career-opening weekend behind four hits, four RBI and six runs scored. She also belted her first-career home run over the left-field wall versus Maryville.

-The penciled-in catcher, Henry, was atop the batting averages with .467, while she had a team-high in runs scored (8) and hits (7) along with her first, of many more to come, home runs, which toppled the left-field wall against Walsh. She was also tied second with Ty-Kella Goins and Kelsie Hocutt with five RBI.

-Henry was in a three-way tie for doubles as she, Emma Webb and Hocutt all had two apiece. Webb, the starting third baseman, was also a force to reckon with all weekend. The sophomore sported a .462 batting average, while scoring four runs and connecting on six hits — tied second with Goins and Audrey Petoskey — to pace the middle of the lineup.

-Petoskey finished the four-game stretch hot, batting a team-high .667 with six hits, eight RBI, a team-second best three doubles and her solo home run in the Lady Railsplitters' first game Saturday to start the chain reaction from Hucklebee and Henry Sunday.

-Goins was all over the bases during the four games, scoring a team-second best seven runs along with six hits and a team-high four doubles, a triple and two stolen bases.

-In the circle, freshman Bailey Griffith won both of her starts, with her first on Saturday against Walsh being a one-hit, shut-out performance. Junior Justice Smith relieved her in the Lady Railsplitters' wet, chilly game Sunday against Maryville as she shutdown a late surge from the Saints and secured the save.

-Freshman Faith Howe bounced back from a shaky start on Saturday in the Lady Railsplitters' lone loss, but she bounced back the next day to take the win against Walsh to cap off the season-opening tournament.

Know the Opponent

-The Flames (6-4) have nearly played triple the amount of games as the Lady Railsplitters. They went to Gulf Shores, Ala., and played five game from Feb. 1-3 to finish their stay 3-2.

-This past weekend, Feb. 8-10, Lee went down to Clearwater, Fla., competing in five more games and leaving the Sunshine State with another 3-2 record to show for.

-The Gulf South Conference squad now comes to Harrogate, Tenn., for its 11th and 12th straight road games to start the season.

-Leading the Flames is Kayla Gooch and her .429 batting average over every game started along with Kayla Louie's .400 and Bailey Church (.367). Louie has a team-high 12 hits, four walks and nine stolen bases.

-Church has a team-high two home runs, .733 slugging percentage and 13 RBI plus a triple like Gooch.

-In the circle, the Flames go with a three-hurler approach like the Lady Railsplitters, where Stevie Baird, Taylor De Adder and Shonna Penney have close to or over 20 innings apiece so far. Abby McKinney has just one appearance, allowing seven earned runs compared to Baird (2.30 ERA in six), De Adder (3.56 ERA in six) and Penney (3.96 in five). Baird and De Adder also have a save each.

Head-to-Head

-These two teams have played dating back to 1987, but before last year, the duo hadn't faced each other since 1995.

-It'll be just over a season ago since the Lady Railsplitters traveled to Cleveland, Tenn., for a doubleheader, falling 3-4 in game one before dropping the second game, 1-9. LMU is looking for its first win over the Flames since April 5, 1995, in a 9-6 victory at their place.
