Quick Hits

-The Lady Railsplitters' first road trip didn't go as expected Wednesday as LMU (10-4) fell 6-3 in the first game at Trevecca Nazarene University before dropping the second, 13-2, for its first run-rule loss of the season. LMU's trip to Lees-McRae, which was supposed to happen this Sunday is now rescheduled for March 17 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader start.

-On the bright side, two of LMU's up-and-coming freshmen kept their impressive season going. The first was McKenzie Henry, who smacked two home runs — a three-run shot for the only runs in the first game and a solo blast in the final game — to push her to a team-high five home runs, which is the third best in the South Atlantic Conference. She's also tied for second in the conference for the most RBI (19).

-Sierra Hucklebee was the second standout as she also sent one over the fence — a solo blast to start the scoring in game two —for her second home run this season.

-But even with the freshmen's home runs, the Lady Railsplitters hit a season-low .231 in the first game followed by another low with a .167 team batting average in the night cap.

-LMU is still sitting at a .340 season batting average with 108 runs scored on 119 hits in 350 at-bats, plus 36 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 95 RBI and 60 walks as the Lady Railsplitters aim to shake off its first doubleheader loss of the season this weekend.

Notes on Rochester

-This will be the first pair of games for the Warriors this season and the first-ever matchup between Rochester College and LMU at Dorothy Neely Field Friday afternoon.

-Last season, the Michigan-based college finished 6-34 overall, while being winless in its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play and ending the season on a 31-game losing streak.

-As a team last year, the Warriors averaged a .259 batting average, going 240-for-927 at the plate with 30 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 115 RBI and 94 walks.

-Rochester lost its best player, Jenna Dominek, who played in every game with a .373 batting average and a perfect 7-for-7 stolen bases, to graduation, but return a key piece to the lineup in Alexis Evans.

-The now sophomore, who always pitched 84.1 innings later year, played/started in every game minus one, and held a solid .295 batting average in her first collegiate season to build off on in year two.

Notes on UVa-Wise

-The Cavaliers (5-1) won the first four games to start their season, and then split with No. 19-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne, losing 1-9 in the first game before bouncing back in the second, 6-3.

-Since that doubleheader on Feb. 15, UVa-Wise hasn't saw the field due to weather cancelations. Back-to-back four-game tournaments were erased, slashing eight games from the Cavs' schedule before heading to Harrogate for the Saturday doubleheader.

-In six games played, Kailyn Spencer (19 IP, 1.11 ERA) has paved the way in the circle, striking out a team-high 18 batters for a 3-0 record. Spencer also has two home runs and a double in just nine at-bats.

-Alexis Miles is leading the pack with her .450 batting average, team-high in runs scored (7), hits (9), doubles (5) and RBI (9). Taylor Creasey just trails, batting .438 on the year with a team-high three triples and is tied second with five walks.

-LMU leads this all-time series, 12-5, winning nine of those straight when the matchup started in 1981. The two teams didn't face each other following the '82 season until 2005 when it jump started again. Last year, the Lady Railsplitters swept the Cavs at their place, 6-3 and 12-9.
