LMU to host 20th-ranked Trojans in Play4Kay game Wednesday evening

2/5/2019 1:02:00 PM

HARROGATE, Tenn. – LMU closes out a two-game home stand Wednesday evening when nationally ranked Anderson pays a visit to the Tex Turner Arena. The game will also be a Play4Kay game, with fundraising efforts going on to raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The Lady Railsplitters enter the game on a two-game losing streak following Saturday's loss to Queens. They are now 12-8 overall and 8-5 in South Atlantic Conference play.

This game kicks off the SAC's Play4Kay Initiative, in which all 11 SAC schools will host and play in Play4Kay games. In addition to Wednesday's game vs. Anderson, LMU's game at Wingate Saturday is also a Play4Kay game. Yow, a longtime women's basketball coach, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and coached the 1988 Olympic Women's Basketball Team to a Gold Medal while undergoing treatment. After the cancer went into remission, she continued her coaching career at North Carolina State, where she picked up over 700 career victories.

In 2004 the cancer returned and she once again fought the disease while spearheading fundraising efforts to raise money for research into the causes and treatment of breast cancer. She died in 2009.

Since 2004, when the games were created as Pink Zone games, the Play4Kay game (re-named following her passing) has raised Millions of dollars for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. LMU has led Division II twice in fundraising since Krystal Evans became the head coach, earning that honor in the 2014-15 and 2017-18 seasons.

Following this game, LMU will hit the road for a SAC contest Saturday afternoon at Wingate.
