Second-half surge paces No. 18 Queens in 20-3 win over Lady Railsplitters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queens University women's lacrosse team (5-2, 1-0 SAC) used a balanced attack and stifling defense to hand Lincoln Memorial (6-2, 1-1 SAC) its second loss of the season, 20-3, on Saturday at Dickson Field.

The Royals got goals from 11 different players and ran off 14 straight goals to turn a close game into a route. Queens, ranked 18thin the nation in the most recent poll, scored the final two goals of the first half to take an 8-3 lead into the break and then ran off 12 unanswered in the second half.

LMU received first-half goals from Erin DePaul and Kelly Csenar. DePaul scored twice in the half to give her 27 for the season, while Csenar netted her 18th tally.

Queens jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of play but LMU answered after head coach Caitlyn Corace called a time out at the 15:08 mark. Csenar put LMU on the board to make it a 2-1 game. Queens scored the next three before DePaul scored her first of the game at the 9:00 mark to make it a 5-2 game. The Royals' Katie Wardle answered before DePaul scored her second of the game to make it a 6-3 Queens lead. From that point on it was all Royals.

"I thought Queens really took advantage of their opportunities and shot the ball well in the second half," Corace said.

The Royals dominated in every statistical category to snap the Lady Railsplitters' program-record six-game winning streak, including shots on goal, where they had a 38-11 advantage. Defensively, Queens held the high scoring LMU offensive attack to only three shots on goal in the second half.

The Lady Railsplitters will try to bounce back against Mars Hill on Wednesday at the LMU Lacrosse Complex. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
