HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial women's golf team will take part in the second-to-last tournament of the regular-season schedule this week at the Coker Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole event is being hosted by Coker College at Hartsville Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Railsplitters will be one of 15 teams competing for the Coker Invitational title. The field is fronted by No. 13 ranked Limestone and No. 19 Anderson. No. 35 Columbus State will also be in attendance. Lincoln Memorial enters the penultimate event of the season ranked 55th in the Golfstat comparative rankings.
The Lady Railsplitters are coming off a fourth-place finish two weeks ago at the Lady Cougar Classic in Columbus, Ga. In that event, Lincoln Memorial carded rounds of 327 and 326 to accumulate a 77-over par total of 653. The Lady Railsplitters fell 16 shots back of Dalton State and Columbus State, who tied atop the leaderboard at 61-over par. It marked the fifth top-five finish of the season for Lincoln Memorial.
Senior
Lise Malherbe again led the charge for the Lady Railsplitters, collecting her sixth consecutive top-10 finish and fifth top-three effort of the season by earning sole possession of third place with back-to-back rounds of 78. Malherbe has now broken 80 in all but one of her 13 rounds this season and leads the team with a 74.31 stroke average, which is on pace to reset the program's previous single-season record by two shots.
Ella Morton also earned a top-10 finish for the Lady Railsplitters at the Lady Cougar Classic, as the freshman shot 80 and 79 to tie for seventh place. That marked the first top-10 effort of Morton's career.
Following this week's tournament, the Lady Railsplitters will play in just one more regular-season event April 1-2 at the Lady Bearcat Classic. That event will serve as the final tune-up prior to the South Atlantic Conference Championship, which is set for April 7-9 in Hickory, N.C.
Results from each round of the Coker Invitational will be available via Golfstat.
