Men's Lacrosse opens SAC play against Coker on Friday

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team will try to snap a four-game losing streak on Friday afternoon when it opens South Atlantic Conference play against the Coker Cobras at Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tenn. 
 
The Railsplitters (2-4) were last in action on February 27, when they suffered a 14-12 loss against Alabama-Huntsville in the home opener. Lincoln Memorial led that match 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, but the Chargers dominated the remainder of the contest and held the Railsplitters scoreless for the final 6:30 to pull out the victory. 
 
Coker (3-3, 1-0 SAC) has won its last two games and kicked off SAC play last Saturday with a 14-9 win against Mars Hill.

- A goal by Chris Tucker at the 6:47 mark of the fourth quarter gave the Railsplitters a 12-11 lead in their home opener against Alabama-Huntsville, but the Chargers scored three times down the closing stretch to hand LMU its fourth straight loss. It's now the longest losing streak for the Railsplitters since a seven-game skid during the inaugural 2015 campaign. 
 
- Reggie Golfin and Chad Walters led the Railsplitters in that loss with three goals apiece, while Ian Cook had two goals and an assist. Tucker also chipped in two goals, while Kyle Arcuri had a goal and two assists.

- The Railsplitters are currently in seventh place in the SAC standings at 2-4 overall. 
 
- Lincoln Memorial has been solid defensively, allowing just 10.67 goals per match. However, the Railsplitters are ranked 51st out of 58 teams in Division II men's lacrosse in scoring offense with 10.5 goals per match. LMU is 54th out of 58 in terms of points per game with 14.17. 
 
- Junior goalie Trenton Cameron is ranked 27th in the nation in goals against average at 10.67 and 37th in save percentage with a 50.4 percent clip. He will be looking to bounce back from a forgettable match against Alabama-Huntsville, though, as he allowed 14 goals and made 12 saves in the loss. 
 
Notes on Coker
 
- The Cobras led from start to finish in their SAC-opening win over Mars Hill. Coker jumped out to a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and an 8-3 halftime lead to cruise to the 14-9 victory. 
 
- Five different players contributed two goals apiece in that win. Joe Venazio had two goals and three assists, while Lucas Hediger had two goals and two assists. 
 
- Prior to that win over Mars Hill, Coker snapped a three-game losing streak with a 14-10 win at Barton. Venazio again led the charge with four goals and three assists, while Ethan Irizarry, Matt Murphy and Jonah Robertson had three goals apiece. 
 
- Coker's three losses this season have come by a combined five goals. The Cobras suffered a 16-15 double-overtime loss at No. 15 Mount Olive, a 10-9 loss at Embry-Riddle and a 10-7 loss to Florida Tech, which is receiving votes in the USILA national poll. 
 
- The Cobras claim the 19th-best scoring offense in the country with 14.0 goals per match. Coker is ranked eighth nationally with 51 total assists. 
 
- Venazio leads the team with 31 points on 19 goals and 12 assists, while Murphy has put in 16 goals and five assists. Robertson has nine goals and eight assists, and Hediger has six goals and eight assists. All told, seven Coker players have at least eight points this season. 
 
- Sophomore goalie Chris Hagy has started all six matches this season for the Cobras, compiling a 10.39 goals against average and a 54.3 save percentage over that span.  
 
Series History 
 
- The Railsplitters have won three straight matches against Coker, including a 13-10 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2018 SAC tournament, which gave LMU its first-ever postseason win. 
 
- Coker's last win in the series came in April 2016, when the Cobras ended the Railsplitters' season with a 12-9 victory in Harrogate in the regular-season finale.
