HARROGATE, Tenn. — In the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings released Wednesday, the Lincoln Memorial University softball team came in at No. 2. (Full Rankings)

According to the LMU softball records, it's the first time the Lady Railsplitters have appeared in the regional rankings, and they are just one under top-ranked North Georgia, who is No. 4 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

LMU (31-11) also saw its name in the NFCA poll for the first time ever this season on March 20, when the Lady Railsplitters rose into the rankings, coming in at No. 23 and then moving up to No. 19 followed by No. 18 before falling out of the rankings after a doubleheader sweep at No. 7 Southeast Region ranked Coker April 6.

Since the Lady Railsplitters' first conference twin-bill loss, they have gotten back on track, splitting at Tusculum before sweeping Lenoir-Rhyne, who came in at No. 4 in the Southeast Region rankings, Saturday for the first time in program history. Those efforts gave LMU 16 votes in the most recent NFCA poll that was released Wednesday morning.

Joining LMU, L-R and Coker as the South Atlantic Conference teams are Carson-Newman at No. 3, Newberry (No. 6) and Wingate (No. 10). The Lady Railsplitters sweep C-N, while splitting with both Newberry and Wingate this season.

Completing the top-10 rankings is No. 5 Georgia College, No. 8 Erskine, and then No. 9 Young Harris, who LMU hosted in a February split.

The Lady Railsplitters are on the home stretch of their season, sitting in a four-way tie for first place while playing two of those first-place teams in Anderson Wednesday and at Catawba Saturday that will likely determine the regular-season champion. Newberry is the other team tied for the top spot.
