TAVARES, Fla. – The LMU beach volleyball team ended their run in the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships with a 3-2 loss to Florida Southern Sunday morning in the semifinals of the tournament's Silver Bracket.
The Lady Railsplitters picked up wins in the first and third flights. In the first spot,
Lindsey Nartker and
Rylee Storms defeated Makena Wilson and Alex Montoya 21-17, 21-17. In flight three,
Kai Wesemann and
Sarah Jones defeated Lee Calhoun and Kennedy Mathews 21-15, 21-14.
In the second flight,
Danielle Ged and
Danielle Stachura went the distance with Kayla Trefren and Kylee Whiteleather, winning the first set 21-18 and losing the second in a close 21-19 result. The third set was close throughout before the duo from Florida Southern pulled out the 15-13 victory.
FSC's Haley Goodrich and Celia Greco defeated
Erica Whiteaker and
Tone Gill 21-14, 21-12 in the fourth spot; while in the fifth flight
Caitlin Bethell and
Emily Walter fell to Emily Jones and Katie Bergeron 21-14, 21-12.
The loss ends the season for the team, who finish with an 8-11 record. It also ends the careers of seniors
Erica Whiteaker,
Danielle Ged,
Kai Wesemann,
Brooke Taylor,
Danielle Stachura and
Tone Gill as well as graduate player
Marissa Coutinho.
Whiteaker, the program's first four-year player, ends her career with a 27-43 record, ranking her third in career victories.
Right behind her with 22 wins is Ged, who is fourth and ends her career with a 22-41 record. Wesemann ranks sixth with 20 wins, and has a 20-20 career record.
