Beach volleyball splits on Saturday afternoon, defeating Carson-Newman 3-2 and falling to Stevenson 3-2

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – LMU picked up their third win of the season with the 3-2 victory over Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon after falling 3-2 to Stevenson earlier in the day.

With the win, LMU improves to 3-5 on the season and will play the same two teams tomorrow, facing Stevenson at noon and C-N at 3 p.m.

Stevenson 3, LMU 2
The Mustangs picked up the win by winning the third, fourth and fifth flights, while LMU came back to take the first and second flights.

Abby Higgins and Brooke Taylor kept it close, but in the end fell 21-16, 21-15 in the fifth spot to Victoria Projic and Julie Nightwine. Then Mackenzie Blevins and Sarah Riggin narrowly defeated LMU's Caitlin Bethell and Emily Walter 22-20, 21-9 at the fourth flight. At the third spot, Kai Wesemann and Sarah Jones went to three sets with Katie Leftridge and Emily Pellini before losing their first match of the year 18-21, 21-15, 15-8.

LMU's Lindsey Nartker and Rylee Storms also went to three sets before defeating Emily Castro and Caroline Dangel in a hard-fought 21-18, 19-21, 15-12 second flight, while at the first spot Danielle Ged and Danielle Stachura picked up their first win of the season with their 22-20, 21-9 win over Darian Hileman and Piper Connors.

LMU 3, C-N 2
LMU improved to 7-3 over Carson-Newman all-time and also won their seventh in a row over the Eagles with the 3-2 win.

Taylor and Higgins grabbed their first win of the season to start things off as they defeated Dilyn Palmer and Taryn Nichols 21-13, 21-13 at the fifth flight. Bethell and Walter also grabbed the win at the fourth spot as they outlasted Montgomery Sauter and Lauren Williams in three sets 21-23, 21-11, 15-9.

C-N's Jones and Fazelnia then outlasted LMU's Wesemann and Jones as the Lady Railsplitter duo went to three sets for the fifth consecutive match, this time falling to the Eagles 16-21, 21-15, 15-9 at the third spot.

LMU then grabbed the overall match win as Nartker and Storms coasted to the 21-16, 21-12 win over Grace Seymour and Morgan Siwiec in the second flight.

In the first spot, Ged and Stachura went to three sets against Summer Coulter and Abby Struewing before narrowly falling 21-12, 20-22, 15-13.
