McKenzie Henry Tabbed AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week

Sophomore Catcher's .625 batting average, 5 RBI, & 1 homer on Sunday gives No. 13 LMU their second SAC POTW nod in 2020

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Now that the No. 13 Lincoln Memorial University softball team has effectively broken out of its late-February slump back into a five-game winning streak, the Lady Railsplitters are beginning to make waves around the South Atlantic Conference yet again.

Sophomore catcher McKenzie Henry has been selected by league officials as the SAC AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week after a solid outing last Sunday in LMU's conference sweep over Mars Hill in North Carolina.

A product of Louisville, Tennessee, Henry has backed up her consistent freshman campaign with an even more productive stretch thus far into her second season. In Lincoln Memorial's only appearance of the week against the Lions, the 5'7 sophomore tallied five RBI, along with her first home run of the 2020 calendar on a .625 batting average.

Collectively in Sunday's Tar Heel State doubleheader, Henry went 5-8 at the plate, recording all five of those RBI in the Lady Railsplitters' 10-1 blowout in the opener. In LMU's come-from-behind 11-4 triumph in the nightcap, the sophomore connected on three of her five trips to the plate, scoring twice during the team's 11-0 game-altering run.

Through Lincoln Memorial's first 21 games of the year, Henry has collected a .311 batting average next to a fabulous on-base plus slugging percentage of .886. Gaining a hit in 19 at-bats, highlighted by five doubles, one triple, and the aforementioned long-ball on Sunday, the sophomore has garnered 14 RBI, frequently in the top five of the Lady Railsplitters' loaded offensive lineup.

While the majority of Henry's praise is earned offensively, the defensive statistics also speak volumes at the catching spot, in that the sophomore has scooped up 54 putouts with zero errors, of course amounting to a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

This marks the second occasion in which LMU has gained a SAC Player of the Week nod this year, coming exactly four weeks after junior first baseman Emma Webb received the same recognition.

As instrumental pieces to the Lady Railsplitters' efficient start to 2020, LMU has even picked up two more victories since Sunday's sweep over Mars Hill, doing the same to North Greenville the following afternoon in a more defensive-minded set, 4-2 & 3-1.

Winners of their last five outings overall and holding down the # 13 slot in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association rankings, Lincoln Memorial returns to SAC competition this weekend against the Catawba Indians, with game times of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. from Harrogate.

Seeing their first 10 games of the season all at home, followed by the next 11 away from Dorothy Neely Field, LMU finally turns back home for the first time in nearly a month for their third SAC two-parter of 2020.
