MONROE, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's golf program traveled to the annual Surratt Memorial Invitational hosted by Wingate University on Monday, finishing the opening 36 holes of action in first-place.
The Lady Railsplitters (301-303) finished the first two rounds in North Carolina on Monday 28-over as a team collectively, sitting four strokes over second-place Flagler College heading into the final round of play.
Lady Railsplitter one-man, sophomore
Lauren Martin (70-75) finished atop the individual leaderboard at the conclusion of Monday's opening two rounds, tied with Flagler College's Sophie Wheeler at one-over-par. Martin fired in a resounding 70 in her first 18 of the day, notching the individual-low round of the tournament thus far. Additionally, she carded three birdies throughout the opening round and a consistent 15 pars in the second.
The Caitlin-Caitlyn show was also on full display throughout Monday for the Blue & Grey, as the duo of Thomas and Lindell both sit in the individual top-10.
Caitlin Thomas (74-76) sits in a tie for fourth at six-over, while
Caitlyn Lindell (78-73) maintains sole possession of eight-place at seven-over. Thomas and Lindell combined for an impressive 10 birdies on the day.
Ella Morton played a pivotal role in pacing the Lady Railsplitters consistently throughout Monday action, as the senior produced a solid 79-79 performance. Similarly, freshman
Rachel Mathieson wasn't far behind herself, as the Scottish international carded an 82-82 outing.
The Blue & Grey also fielded two individual competitors this week in North Carolina, sophomore
Carley Downhour (80-87) and junior
Annika Lagos (77-92) who both placed within the top-45 of the individual field.
