Railsplitters Take SAC Opener Over Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program continued their hot hitting as they cruised to a 10-3 win over in-state foe Tusculum to open South Atlantic Conference on Friday night.

The Railsplitters (9-7, 1-0 SAC) got things going right away in the first as Chris Hall took just five pitches to notch LMU's first of many hits on the night. Cameron Bowen was then hit by the Pioneer pitcher before Carson Boles found the same happening in his first plate appearance on the night.

Ryan Kurth walked in his first appearance on the night and picked up the first RBI of the night. Kasten Harvey was able to connect but flew out and was able to bring in Bowen on a sacrifice fly. A failed pickoff attempt by the Tusculum pitcher allowed Kurth to advance to second and on to third as Boles was able to score, giving the Splitters a 3-0 lead after the first.

Both defenses settled down in the second inning and going into the top of the third. The Pioneers broke the scoring silence as they were able to notch two runs in the bottom of the third.

Lincoln Memorial went onto further their lead after Hall laid down another single to left field to bring in Sam Mast and Andrew Keene to make it 5-2. The next at-bat saw Bowen step up and send one over the left field wall for a two-run home run.

The Blue and Gray saw the scoreboard again as Hall was able to bring in Keene on an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth.

The contest went quiet over the next two innings before the Railsplitter offense got going again in the seventh, making the Pioneers making a pitching change mid-inning. A passed ball by the Pioneer catcher allowed Keene to tally another run. Hall was able to tally his fourth hit of the day in an RBI single to make it 10-3 LMU.

The Railsplitter pitching staff locked down as they were led by the combination of Brennan Murphy and Harvey to close out the contest, giving the Railsplitters the 10-3 win over the Pioneers.
