INDIANAPOLIS – The reigning South Atlantic Conference Tournament Champion, Lincoln Memorial University softball program (35-18, 15-9 SAC) has been selected as the No. 5-seed for this year's NCAA DII Southeast Regional Softball Championship. The Lady Railsplitters will take on the No. 4-seed and Conference Carolina champion, King University.
The regular season SAC champions, Anderson University have been selected as the No. 1 overall-seed for this year's Southeast Regional, hosting the tournament on the Trojan campus.
First pitch of Lincoln Memorial's first-round regional contest against the Tornado will begin following the conclusion of host Anderson's clash against Francis Marion University, as the Blue & Grey are tentatively scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m. EST this Thursday, May. 12.
Head coach
Ritchie Richardson's squad, who battled through a two-month period that saw a 13-game win-streak, immediately followed by an 11-game skid will enter their third-consecutive regional in a fresh frame of mind.
The Lady Railsplitters responded excellently two weekends ago, winning the program's first South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship thanks to victories over Queens, Anderson and Carson-Newman.
Lincoln Memorial and King have met this season for a doubleheader on Feb. 23, that saw a split between the Tornado and the Lady Railsplitters. LMU won game one of the series with junior ace
Emma Frost in the circle, pitching a seven-inning complete game, striking out 10 on the afternoon.
Frost will be Thursday's projected started, as the junior boasts a 21-8 overall record. The righty ace won all three games in the circle in the SAC tournament for LMU, deservingly named the tournament-MVP.
King's Nikole Counts will be the projected starter LMU could expect to face, as the junior has racked up a 19-7 overall record, including 98 strikeouts this spring.
One major footnote to follow this weekend regards RBI machine and graduate first baseman,
Emma Webb. She currently sits with 159-career runs-batted-in, needing just three RBI to break the all-time program-record mark of 161.
