Box Score 3 COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team lost its last three games to Le Moyne, Embry-Riddle and Charleston on Saturday and Sunday at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic at the South Commons Softball Complex.
The No. 18 Railsplitters (15-10) were invited to participate in the event that includes several of the elite softball teams in Division II nationally for the unofficial kickoff to the season.
Game 1 Saturday: Le Moyne 4, Lincoln Memorial 3
After
Kelsie Tuggle scored on an error to put the Railsplitters on the board in the Top of the 1
st inning, the Dolphins crossed the plate 3 times in the bottom half. A
Sterre den Duijn RBI single brough Lincoln Memorial to within a run at 3-2 in the 3
rd inning.

Hayley Tamaro pitched 4 straight shutout innings after serving up the 3-run homer in the 1
st before allowing an unearned run in the 6
th.
Katie Tuggle scored a run in the Top of the 7
th to again get Lincoln Memorial to within a run, but the visiting team wasn't able to complete the comeback.
Le Moyne's Laura Bennett threw 7.0 inning, giving up 3 runs (all unearned) on 5 hits to collect the win. Tamaro was hit with the loss after tossing 6.0 innings of 4-run ball (3 earned) on 5 hits and striking out 4.
Katie Tuggle scored twice for the Railsplitters, while
Madison Henry had 2 hits to lead the Lincoln Memorial offense.
Game 2 Saturday: Embry-Riddle 2, Lincoln Memorial 0
The Eagles tallied single runs in the 3
rd and 4
th innings to spoil a solid pitching performance by
Emma Frost in the second game of the day.
Embry-Riddle scored on an RBI single in the 3
rd before a sac fly in the 4
th for the game's only offense. The Lincoln Memorial offense could only muster 3 hits in 25 at bats in the contest.
Frost pitched 7.0 innings of 2-run ball (1 earned) while allowing 7 hits and striking out four to be hit with the loss. Embry-Riddle's Shelby Morse struck out 5 in a complete game shutout to collect the win.
Sunday: Charleston 10, Lincoln Memorial 1 (6 innings)
Charleston scored 1 run in the 1
st inning, 2 runs in the 3
rd, 4 runs in the 5
th and 3 runs in the 6
th on its way to a mercy rule win over the Railsplitters on the final day of the leadoff classic.
Katie Tuggle hit a homerun in the Bottom of the 3
rd inning for Lincoln Memorial's only scoring. She was named to the All-Tournament Team following the event.
