Box Score WINGATE, N.C.- The Railsplitters would come out to a commanding start in their 2023 SAC Tournament win over Catawba yesterday. They would continue this momentum to grab yet another win today over the #2 seed in the tournament, Wingate. The loss puts Wingate at 31-17 (19-6 against SAC opponents) on the season as Lincoln Memorial improves to 29-16 (16-12 against SAC opponents).
Wingate would open scoring on the day in the top of the second. The RBI single in the top of the frame would be the only run the Bulldogs would put up in the matchup. Lincoln Memorial soon had an answer, however. In the bottom of the second,
Andrew Keene would be walked to open up the inning and
Kasten Harvey would step up to the plate and hit a double to score Keene and even the game up at 1-1.Â
Solid pitching and defense would be the story for both teams in the next few innings to keep the score tied. This would change in the bottom of the sixth when the Railsplitters would get a baserunner aboard via base on balls.
Mitch Petzelt would take advantage, hitting a single to score the runner and help LMU to a 2-1 lead.
Ethan Bobo, who got the start, would finish through the seventh inning, allowing
Colin Murphy to come on in relief. The Splitter lead would carry into the top of the ninth inning andÂ
David Brian Ellison coming into the game with a save opportunity. He would do just that with a three-up-three-down inning, allowing Lincoln Memorial to move to the next round of the SAC Tournament.
The Railsplitters await their opponent for tomorrow as #3 seed Catawba takes on #7 seed Anderson today at 2:45 PM. The winner of that game will play #2 Wingate at 6:30 PM tonight to see who will face off against #6 seed LMU tomorrow at 12 PM.Â
