Stockholm, Sweden is 4,459 miles away from Harrogate, Tennessee. Sweden is home to many different things. One of the most important to Harrogate, however, is that Sweden is also the home of
Amanda Dahlstrom.Â
Dahlstrom, coming from a family of tennis players, had grown up playing the sport and decided that she wanted to pursue a collegiate tennis career in the United States. Upon much consideration, she finally decided on Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate.
Come fall of 2018, Dahlstrom made the trip overseas to Harrogate to continue her education and begin the start of her college tennis experience. Her impact on the tennis program would be felt immediately and last in all five of her playing seasons. Throughout these seasons, Dahlstrom would have a career record of 28-32 in doubles and 44-30 in singles compiled from all three doubles positions and singles positions 2 through 6.Â
Besides her performance on the court, one of the biggest things to highlight is the perseverance Dahlstrom demonstrated in her time as a Railsplitter. Her sophomore and junior seasons were altered by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is also the reason she was able to return with a fifth year of eligibility. On top of this, Dahlstrom would fall ill at the end of the Fall 2020 semester, causing her to return to Sweden early for the winter break. This wouldn't hold her back, however, as she would bounce back for her most successful season yet in her senior season. Upon finishing her undergraduate degree, she would have the decision to make whether to utilize her fifth-year option.
Friend, teammate, and roommate
Anke Delisse had nothing but kind things to add about Dahlstrom. "Amanda is one of the most hard-working, dedicated, and caring athletes, students, and people that I know," gushed Delisse. "She pours her heart and soul into everything she does and makes sure everything around keeps rolling while at it. Ever since stepping foot on the LMU campus and its tennis courts, I realized she was one of the most hard-working players on the team. Later, I realized she is also an extremely smart person and always makes sure she stays on top of her classes.
"Over time, I noticed her continued involvement in the athletic department and many other sports teams. LMU is lucky to have her as a student, an athlete, and a person. She has added a lot to the school and its community and definitely won't be forgotten by anyone who has had the pleasure to play, work, study, and live with her. I couldn't have wished for a better friend, teammate, and roommate during my time at LMU."
Dahlstrom returned to LMU in the fall of 2022 to begin her MPA and would ultimately make the decision to rejoin the tennis team. A decision that was vital to the Lady Railsplitters' season as she would appear in all matches played this year and end her career with a commanding victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in her final match as an athlete at Lincoln Memorial University.
It's not just her dedication to tennis that has made Dahlstrom so valuable to LMU. She has also spent much time here working with the athletic department. From working at sporting events to learning about athletic compliance, her extensive work has been much appreciated by the athletic department.Â
On top of this, Dahlstrom is also a performer in the classroom, graduating with honors to get her bachelor's degree in business administration, sport management and currently working toward her master's in public administration. She also spends time working in the Tagge Center as a peer tutor. Other accolades to her resume up to this point include serving as a leader through LMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the Alpha Chi Sigma Honors Society.Â
Accolades and competition aside, Dahlstrom's biggest impact on LMU has been the people that have been so lucky to interact with her. Teammates, friends, and peers alike could echo their appreciation and pride in knowing her.Â
None could say it better, though, than her sister, Sara: "I am so proud of her and who she is as a person on and off the court, but most importantly proud to have her as my sister. She's smart, dedicated, and can take on any challenge she is facing, so I know that whatever her life looks like after college, she will be the best at it. Älskar dig, Amanda."
