Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's wrestling team was back on the mat Wednesday night, playing host to Belmont Abbey. With only six bouts, each one carried substantial score implications for the Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial didn't wrestle the 125, 184, 197, or 285 classes, seeing Belmont Abbey spotted 24 points as a team. Lincoln Memorial took the head-to-head advantage in individual bouts that were wrestled.
Adam Szewczyk defeated Zach Bergman in the 133 class by fall to get things started for the Railsplitters.
Andrew Overbay claimed a decisive victory in the 141 class, defeating Kolin Kunkle by tech fall. Belmont Abbey claimed the 149 class as Stone Busler defeated
Graham Rocha by tech fall.
James Thaxton claimed a dominant victory in the 157 class, defeating Jack Garret by tech fall; Garret was held scoreless through the bout. Belmont Abbey claimed the 165 and 174 bouts, with Alex Ropski and Palmer Smith defeating
Julian Smith and Randy Bucsok respectively in each bout, though each by decision. With one fall and two tech falls throughout the night, the Railsplitters actually took the edge over Belmont Abbey in bouts wrestled by a score of 16-11. However, due to the four forfeits, Belmont Abbey claimed team victory over Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters will be back in action on Nov. 17 at King University.
