Emory, VA – In their final dual of the year, the Lincoln Memorial University Men's Wrestling team secured win number one of the season, spoiling senior night for Emory & Henry to claim a 34-23 victory over the Wasps to end the regular season for Lincoln Memorial
After the Railsplitters secured two no-contest wins to start the meet, LMU took the first bout of the dual vs Emory & Henry, as Spencer Reep was able to secure a Fall victory in the first period, taking down his foe in the 141-division and pinning him 2:09 into the frame, putting LMU in the lead 18-0.
The Splitters would expand on their lead, as Porter Finstad turned in another stellar performance on someone's senior night. Against his opponent in the 149-pound division, Finstad turned a takedown into a four-point nearfall to take a 7-0 lead in the first round. After an escape from his opponent, Finstad finished the job with a takedown, securing a commanding 24-0 lead for the Railsplitters in 2:36 of wrestling, winning the final bout of his collegiate wrestling career.
James Thaxton kept the good times rolling for the Splitters, turning in the performance of a lifetime in a bout that went the distance. Two escape points in the first round were parlayed into a takedown late into the first set, and after selecting top for the second round, a four-point nearfall put the Railsplitters back on top. Thaxton was able to ride out the second period, and secured the win by turning a third period takedown into another four-point nearfall, netting 18 total points thanks to a riding time bonus as Thaxton earned a Major Decision, and four more points for the Railsplitters.
LMU locked up the win as Brady Comerford won an uncontested 285-match, giving the Railsplitters 34 points and the road victory. With the victory, LMU ends at 1-12 on the season and 1-10 in conference play.
