Women's Wrestling Wins Two at Patriot Duals

Williamsburg, Ky - In their first taste of team competition this season, the Lincoln Memorial Women's Wrestling team earned two wins as part of the Patriot Duals, going 2-4 including a win over Liberty University in the two-day tournament hosted by the University of the Cumberlands.

The Railsplitters first win of the event came against Liberty, as Lincoln Memorial earned a 25-19 win over the Flames, with the Splitters taking five of the eight bouts. In the 124-pound bout, Riley Flickinger earned a win in two periods, with a four-point near-fall in the first period followed by a two-point fall to end the 8-1 fall win in 4:28.

Three more wins would come via the fall for the Railsplitters over the Flames. Calista Gibson would take the win in the 138-pound weight class 13-10, with a four-point fall starting the pivotal second period en-route to a win in 5:56 of action. Shonticia Taft followed that performance up with a 6-0 fall win, needing just 1:19 to secure the 145-pound class for the Splitters. Shandrea Morgan rounded out the fall wins for LMU, needing just 34 seconds to pin her opponent and secure the 6-0 victory. Sirenity Curtis secured the fifth win, nabbing the 103-pound division via forfeit.

The Splitters continued to roll, with a 27-11 win over Lourdes University for the second win of the weekend. Curtis and Madison Northern secured forfeit wins for crucial points, while three falls set the tone on the mats.

Flickinger continued her dominance from the win over the Flames, turning an early reverse into a pin-fall 1:45 into the 124-division match for the 4-2 fall victory. Sophia Walls earned a close 5-4 win in the 131-pound weight class, as Walls would also turn a fast reversal into a pin-fall in just 1:44 of wrestling. Morgan netted the final fall win for the Splitters, quickly earning four points in the 160-pound division before securing the pin 1:35 into the first period.

Throughout the tournament, the Railsplitters would see considerable individual success alongside the team wins. Flickinger earned further wins over opponents from Life University and University of the Cumberlands, with her win over Cumberlands coming via a 10-0 technical fall win in 2:01 of action. Curtis netted two further wins on the weekend herself, with an 8-0 fall win over Rochester Christian in 46 seconds and a 6-2 fall against Lindsey Wilson in 1:49 of competition. Gibson rounded out the teams performance with a seven-point fall win over Montreat and a 6-4 fall in 2:41 over Rochester Christian.
