Danville, KY - The Lincoln Memorial men's and women's track teams were in action over the weekend at Centre College in the Centre Indoor Invitational, the final meet of the regular season ahead of the South Atlantic Conference championships. Both the men's and women's teams turned in impressive performances, with both taking second place overall.
Harper Russell took first place in the women's 1-mile event with a time of 5:13.75. Teammate
Grace Rose followed closely, locking down third place in the event with a time of 5:18.14.
Greta Chizzali took 8th place with a time of 5:29.83.
Allyssa Gent secured 14th place with a time of 5:52.14.
The men's team also dominated the 1-mile event.
Spencer Baldwin took the top spot with a time of 4:25.43. Teammates
Marig Engelbrecht and
Sam Fulton took 2nd and 3rd place with times of 4:27.79 and 4:27.94 respectively.
Vincent Quilici took a first place finish in the men's 400m dash with a blazing time of 50.30.
Hunter Preston,
Patrick Zuralski, and
Nile Mclymont took 5th, 6th, and 7th place with times of 51.31, 51.44, and 51.74.
Micah Dunn took a 14th place finish with a time of 54.36.
Ereyonna Gore took 4th place in the women's 400m dash with a time of 1:00.62.
Clayon Cooper took 6th place in the men's 600m with a time of 1:27.75.
Lincoln Memorial dominated the men's and women's 800m, taking the top two spots in each event.
Jacie Begley and
Reaghan Curde took first and second places in the women's 800m with times of 2:20.35 and 2:21.72. Brothers Luis and
Joel Borkey took the top two spots in the men's 800m with times of 1:56.28 and 1:59.02.
Sterling Webb took second place in the women's 200m with an impressive time of 26.25. Teammate
Trinity Hine followed closely in 4th place with a time of 26.75. Quilici turned in another good performance in the men's 200m with a 22.38 finish.
Micah Dunn finished in 8th place to secure a top-10 finish with a time of 23.90.
The Railsplitters could not be competed with in the women's 3000m run, taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and 10th, leaving six of the top 10 runners being from Lincoln Memorial.
Grace Rose took first place with a time of 10:28.52.
Nadine McIntyre took second place with a time of 10:31.00.
Weslyn McIntosh finished third with a time of 10:34.50.
Katie Smock took seventh place with a time of 11:12.62.
Aubrey Bachtel finished eighth with a time of 11:31.09.
Olivia Truelove finished in 10th with a time of 11:36.43.
The men's team saw four runners finish in the top 10 of the men's 3000m.
Jaxson Branham took third place with a time of 9:02.18.
Simon Fillers took fourth with a time of 9:02.83.
Sam Fulton took a seventh place finish with a time of 9:10.43. Conner Chandler took 10th with a time of 9:38.47.
David Gober finished in 12th with a time of 9:45.34.
In the women's 4x400m relay, the Railsplitters took 2nd and 3rd place. Hine, Webb, Gore, and
Maggie Sanderson finished the relay with a combined time of 4:05.69 to take 2nd place. Begley, Chizzali, Curde, and Russell finished with a combined time of 4:16.39 to take 3rd place in the event. In the men's 4x400m relay, Lincoln Memorial took first place. Quilici, Hunter, Zuralski, and McLymont completed the relay with a combined time of 3:27.23 to secure the top spot.
Moving into field events,
Ashley Parrish, Kylee Alivs,
Nevaeh Kerns, and
Cate Turner secured good performances in the women's shot put. Parrish took second in the event with a distance of 40ft 7 /12in. Alvis took fifth place in the event with a distance of 36ft 4in. Kerns finished 16th with a distance of 30ft 1/4in. Turner took 23rd with a distance of 27ft 2 1/2in. In the men's shot put, brothers Avery and
Asher Hatfield took 13th and 30th in the event with distances of 37ft 10 1/2in and 29ft 4 3/4in respectively.
Parrish, Kerns, Alvis, and Turner also had impressive showings in the women's weight throw. Parrish secured another top five finish, taking third place with a distance of 47ft 3 1/2in. Kerns secured a top five finish as well with a distance of 46ft 2/12in. Alivs finished 14th with a distance of 40ft 6in. Turner finished 17th with a time of 38ft 4 3/4in.
Avery Hatfield took 12th in the men's weight throw with a distance of 43ft 3 3/4in and
Asher Hatfield finished 28th with a distance of 33ft 6in.
Sanderson finished just outside the top 10 in te women's long jump with a distance of 15ft 3/4in. Webb took first in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 4ft 11in. Sanderson finished inside the top 10, clearing a height of 4ft 7in.
The women's team finished second overall with 121 points. Only the hosting Centre finished ahead of Lincoln Memorial. The men's team also took second place overall with 92 points, again, only being edged by Centre.
Head coach
Rochelle Black was pleased with his teams' performances, highlighting the reoccurring success at Centre College as he foreshadowed the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Championships.
"This venue has been good to us in the past and today was no different," he said. "We had some excellent performances across the board. With our conference championships in two weeks, this was a good final meet before we head to North Carolina."
