Harrogate, TN - It's been a phenomenal season for Lincoln Memorial track and field athlete
Sterling Webb. She doesn't plan on stopping at the end of the regular season or even the conference championships. Webb's sights are fixed on the Indoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis this week as part of the 2025 NCAA Division II Winter Championships Festival. Webb will compete in the women's pentathlon on Thursday.
Webb highlighted her mindset ahead of the national tournament as well as her approach to training ahead of the tournament. "For nationals, I'm really keeping a 'growth mindset'," she said. "I'm very excited to see everyone perform. I believe that will inspire me to compete to the best of my ability. I've really focused on resting a lot ahead of nationals. I competed in about nine different events in the conference tournament, so I've really been focusing on getting plenty of rest so that I am recharged for nationals and ready to compete."
She also drew attention to the close-knit relationship with her coaches and teammates, stating that is has elevated the team as a whole throughout the season. "My relationship with coach Black has really grown a lot this season on a personal level and I feel like that's helped elevate me to where I am now," she said. "My team has been amazing all season. This is probably the closest we have been collectively in a while and it's really helped not just me, but our entire team be at our best this season. Our women's team just had a historic performance in the conference tournament and I really believe that our cohesion and chemistry really showed. We know that we all have each other's backs."
In finality, Webb expounded on what she believes will be her best bet for a solid performance at nationals. "I just have to be able to handle the pressure of it all," she said. "I have to give my self some room to breathe. I take things very seriously and always try to compete to the best of my ability. I am my harshest critic. I want to be able to focus on enjoying it just as much as I enjoy competing. I think that will really help me do my best."
Webb will compete on Thursday with events beginning at 11:30 AM.
