Emory, VA -- The Lincoln Memorial track and field teams delivered a series of strong performances during the South Atlantic Conference Championships held this past Wednesday and Thursday. The Railsplitters were led by
Vincent Quilici and
Theresa Brosthaus, who both secured top finishes in their respective events. Quilici dominated the men's 400 meter preliminary round, qualifying in first place with a time of 47.94 before returning in the finals to secure a third-place finish in 48.20. Brosthaus matched that excellence in the women's 800 meter, qualifying first in the preliminaries at 2:15.87 and then claiming a runner-up finish in the finals with a time of 2:13.21.
The mid-distance and hurdle units provided significant depth throughout the meet. In the women's 800 meter finals, Jacie Begley followed closely behind Brosthaus to take third place in 2:14.44, while Luis Borkey earned a fifth-place finish in the men's 800 meter final with a time of 1:51.90. Callie Wetzel showed remarkable improvement in the women's 400 meter hurdles, qualifying sixth in the prelims and then moving up to seventh in the finals with a personal best time of 1:02.98. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Jaxson Branham and Conner Chandler placed fifth and seventh respectively for the men, while Greta Chizzali and Natalia Iker took fifth and sixth for the women. The meet concluded with the 4x400 meter relay teams both scoring points, as the men took sixth and the women finished seventh.
The field events and multi-discipline competitions saw Lincoln Memorial athletes consistently challenging for podium spots. Cate Turner highlighted the throwing events with a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 44.08 meters. Avery Hatfield also contributed to the team score in the men's hammer throw, placing seventh with a toss of 46.23 meters. In the women's javelin, Kylee Alvis earned an eighth-place finish, while Jackson Clonce led the men's discus efforts with a ninth-place toss of 41.41 meters. Maggie Sanderson showcased her versatility by competing in the women's heptathlon across both days, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon shot put and heptathlon javelin.
The preliminary rounds featured several other notable performances that contributed to the team atmosphere. Reaghan Curde and Katrien Sherwood competed in the 1500 meter prelims, while Jersy Nelke represented the Railsplitters in the 100 meter hurdle trials. The men's 400 meter dash also saw efforts from Guillaume Bogaert and Caleb Chittum. In the 800 meter prelims, Joel Boerkey, Roman Borghetti-Metz, Clayon Cooper, and Sam Fulton all competed for the men, while Alyssa Roberts raced for the women. In the distance events, Simon Fillers completed the 10000 meter run, while Jaxson Branham returned for the 5000 meter final to place eighth, followed by Emma Hainzer who led the women's 5000 meter contingent with a ninth-place finish.
